I heard from an experienced VW engine builder, that parts from SCAT were from materials made in China, Taiwan, etc. The SCAT 2008 catalog brags that they have the "highest quality" available. The same builder told me there was a lawsuit some years ago where SCAT mis-represented their parts origin. They lost the lawsuit, he said.
Anyone out there in VW land know of any details?
Thanks

Almost every VW part is made in a foreign country ie. Scat, CB, Bugpack, and Empi. Some of them are made in the same factory and branded a different manufacture name.

Taiwan produces better stuff then most american companies for much less money and China will soon be the next Japan although they are still getting their act up and running so as of now I wouldnt recommend anything coming out of china.
The majority of high end mountain bike stuff is taiwan and the quality is 10 fold better then part quality i get on a daily basis from american vendors.

Stuff from Gene Berg, Autocraft, Pauter, etc. are probably the best stuff out there. Not cheap though!

As I understand it, there is a higher sulfur content in the 4340 Chromoly used in a lot of Scat's products.... This allows for more tooling of products per cutting tool, thusly, increased productivity. (Not for sure, but it makes sense)
Also, Scat advertises its products as "Made in America" because, again, as I understand it, they are finish ground in America..... I dont know the final outcome of the lawsuit but am aware that there was one.
We've used Scat products in a few of our motors with no problems. I haven't heard any complaints from anyone else either.
Depending on what you're looking for look into Rimco or Demello.... They're priced well and sell a great deal of the parts needed to assemble an engine.
