He said it would be about 50-60hp gain. Seems cool, I don't know if would pass smog though. Any thoughts?

sounds like a nice package. As far as smog goes, I wouldn't immediately rule it out. It would obviously make a little worse, since the motor cam specs are originally designed for lower piston speeds. The extra displacement would be handy for some decent torque, which never hurts. Unfortunately I can't say its good or bad though quality wise on a specific basis since I haven't had experience with Morana.

The way I see things, if you've got the money to do the work to an engine that you'd have to smog, you'd better have the money to pay for a fake smog. I usually find places that'll do it for less than $300.

As long as the compression ratio stays close to stock you should be OK. Disclamer, your cam and fuel injection set-up will have a much greater effect on smog.

the places around here are 150 but most of them are getting shut down.
