Hi,

I am looking for a cold air intake system for my 2000 3.slow Ranger. The only company I have been able to find who makes a cold air intake for a 3.0 is Volant Cool Air Intakes(www.volant.com/). But the problem is, that they don't make the intake for a 2000 3.0, only an 02 and up. Do you guys and gals think that a 2002 engine compartment and a 2000 engine compartment are similar enough that it will fit? If not, are there any other companies that make an intake for a 2000 3.0 Ranger?

Thank you very much

-Keith

AFE shows one too- http://afefilters.com/intakes.htm

We don't sell them, but they build a good product.

save your money, unless you are running high compression or a blower of some kind, the difference in temperature will make very little if any difference.

Less restriction is where the power is made.

on the subject of filters, not to hijack your thread or anything, but what is a good low restriciton air fliter that still offers good blockage to dirt and sand. im just running a K & N now on a 22re.

He's right. There really is no such thing as a "cold" air intake, it dosen't actually take cold air in. The power is made by getting rid of the stock air box that restricts the air flow.

In theory... Cold air = more dense than hot air. Dense air = more power. Colder air = more power than hot air. But unless your intake is sucking REALLY hot air the performance benefit isn't very high. Save your money for gas instead.

K&N = no bueno. K&N filters are not very restrictive but the filter oil can foul sensors and the oil in the cotton easily clogs up in silt. Prefilters help but not much. Plus most K&N filters allow too much crap past the filter and into the engine. Based on my own experience I now refuse to run a K&N filter on anything I own.

The 3.0L isn't going to see a big improvement with just a filter swap either. A clean cheapo paper filter will flow the necessary amount of air. Paper sucks when it gets wet but your intake shouldn't be sucking water in the first place.

Power gains... some people say "I NOTICED A BIG DIFFERENCE WITH MY FILTER SWAP" - that might be partially true. The reason is usually because whatever filter installed before the swap was dirty as heck and causing a flow restriction.

Try searching for an AEM filter for your application: http://www.aempower.com/ViewCategory.aspx?CategoryID=32 --- The AEM Dryflow does NOT use oil and filters better than K&N's cotton gauze.

I would stick with stock, I have a KnN on my 6.0 L chevy and I cant notice a difference in power, only a difference in sound and I am always having to clean the intake tube and the intake on the truck. Way too much crap gets through. IMO
