For anyone who's interested in hearing call ins from riders during Dakar prep, the early days in Lisbon, and the gutting aftermath of the cancellation, please check out RallyRAIDio at http://RallyRAIDio.net

BTW, there is a two-part call with Toby Moody in there, the man who IS the voice of the Dakar. His perspectives were interesting. Thanks, Toby!

Nate, thanks for posting that up! I don't know if you had noticed that I had already linked those calls in the thread Helge started as soon as I listened to them on the ADVRider site. All of the calls give a perspective not available to us stuck here in the states, again thanks!

Thanks for your links in the other thread… They were definitely worth listening to because it really made you start thinking of “all” the repercussions.

This is huge!

In the face of adversity, the french have done what they do best...Surrender:mad:

The worst part is, this brings legitimacy and recognition to the terrorists.

They should have postponed it for a week, hired Blackwater for 2-3 mil. and went on with the event.

While in sentiment I agree with you ................ For 2-3 mill you are going to purchase a few renta-cops is that what you really want?

IMHO unless you want to do the ole nuke and pave routine .....................

We need to do something a bit more serious and closer to reality

JMHO of course ............... if YFF's want to drop a nuke or ten ... well by all means knock yourselves out :)

IMHO that is probably the wrong idea

Thanks, Chase. I don't post here too often, but thought there'd be some interest (obviously).

Thanks for posting them to the other thread -- it was moving so quickly, I missed seeing them in there in the rush!

The reaction coming out of Europe is incredible. I'm glad I had the opportunity to help spread the world. Calls continue to come in, and I've got a great call from Tod Davidson that I'll process and post up tomorrow.

Thanks, everyone.

Ummmmmm, Blackwater operatives are hardly "rent-a-cops"! Those guys are trained killers, a lot of them ex-special forces. They've caught a lot of flack recently for being a bit "too agressive" in Iraq.

I agree that we give legitimacy to the terrorist threat by caving in, but how much legitimacy would we have given if they had bombed one of the bivouacs one night? It's not like their locations were kept secret or anything. I doubt any of the competitors would have been in much danger while driving, but a different story when they're all collected in one place, tired and sleeping.

Yup... a simple mortar attack would have left several dead. But they just needed to establish a clear zone.
