Hello

Today, Joćo Lagos, from Lagos Sports, (the portuguese parter of ASO in the Dakar) assumes if ASO leaves Lisbon Africa to go to Chile do run a race in the place of the Dakar, he is prepared to go to Africa without ASO.

J. Lagos, says if ASO go to south America, we will be very happy to go with them also.
But the real important point, is that he don' t want to leave Africa.

So, some people say, that he will run a new race, or do one upgrade at the Marocco Rali, and bring the starting point to Lisbon.

The news could be found here:

Sorry but only for portuguese or spanish readers.

very cool. I'm not against a new rally in South America by any means, and I hope that if ASO does go there, that SOMEONE keeps racing long distance in thru Africa.

If the Baja 1000 was abandoned by SCORE and ran by BITD... I'd still feel a part of the legend. All of it as long as it ran thru Baja...

I have heard Lagos is also talking with a group in Spain -- and both governments -- about doing the Dakar Rally, or at least some version of it, without ASO.

After seeing what ASO has come up with--the 3 race series and none of it in Africa--i am more and more interested in the idea of another organization taking over a Lisbon to Africa event.

Do it Lagos Sport. You will succeed. Nobody likes the ASO idea. Everybody wants to race from Europe to the Sahara desert! Keep the costs down and the world will come race--it is truly a great opportunity for the right organization.

My fingers are crossed.

Lagos Sport seems like a strong company that can make it happen:
