Just got my 08 Duramax. I bought through our Fleet people and picked it up from a dealer. When I asked about what I need to do and don't do regarding a "break-in period" he said "It's broke-in at the factory, just don't tow anything for the first 100 miles or so" Then I asked about putting Mexican diesel in it, he response was "No problem" Any of you diesel mechanic's have any "words of wisdom" regarding these statements??

As far as break-in, that's pretty much b.s. It takes at least a thousand miles to truly "break-in" a diesel. The higher lubricating properties along with the reduced reciprocating speed of the engine cause the motor to break in slower, even with big torque numbers. In the end, a proper break-in offers a payoff with a better, more efficient, longer lasting engine.

I'll have 5 to 600 miles on it by this Thursday and was thinking of towing my (24' enclosed) trailer with the race car (3500lb) to laughlin. Yes - No?

I towed with mine but did an oil change at 1k 2,500k and put a filtermag on the filter.
I also changed the spin on trans filter at 2,500, im anal about my stuff, if you are using mexican diesel use lucas fuel additive to keep the lubricity of the fuel, buy a gallon it slike $25 bucks, get a large race style funnel and get the filter insert for it, I have always used them south of the border, sometimes the filter was clean, other times it had lots of debris in it.
its worth the $35 dollar funnel/filter. Good luck.
