If yuo've looked at these, they are not cheap! I have an old beater baja beetle that I want to do a dry sump, more out of curiousity. Are these pumps extra special or could one do it with a couple ordinary oil pumps mounted externally on a drive belt? I've seen a stock older vw dry sump and it looks to be a plain oil pump mounted externally. Most use one pressure pump and 2 return pumps at half the flow of the pressures. Any ideas?

I dont think internal pumps are sealed to totally prevent leaking. Check ebay, you can find some bargains. I got a stainless chevy drysump pan for something rediculous like $60 a couple years ago.

Or try the Off-Road swap meet, I picked up a 3 stage pump there for 5$ and a bloodymary. We were both happy.......

In other words, don't do what you're thinking and get a real one.
