Imperial county doesn't have any one that knows much about Land Rovers. Mine didn't pass smog and I am running out of time. One guy told me that the Mas Air flow sensor might be out and could cost as much as $700.00. Then he said that might be just part of the problem and that its hard to get parts out here in the Imperial Valley. Made me feel like a couple of shops were just guessing. Can't afford 700 to smog a used car. What did I get myself into??????????

give discoweb.org a try a whole bunch there. or try the land rover section on pirate 4x4 (search first)
parts should (are) not be that hard to get

good luck

Spray it with water or air? I looked at this device and couldn't see its value for even 400. Its seems to be just a tube between the air filter to the fuel injection system.

Thanks for the links. I appreciate the advice. DMV gave me 16 days to get it smogged so it gave me reliefe to take my time and get it right.

First look at your smog sheet and see what exhaust gasses it failed on, hc, co,o2, etc. And then go from there, before you shotgun some expensive repair. each gas measurement points to a certain issue, lean, rich, or if your cat is just done with. Then you can isolate weather a sensor is causing it or if its and internal engine issue. An hc (hydrocarbon) failure is usually a misfire of some sort, think of hc's as raw unburt fuel leaving the combustion chamber. As for cleaning your mass air flow sensor, I have always cleaned ford mass airs with brake clean or carb clean and never had any issues. Just dont stick anything into where the hotwires are.

did you have someone pull the codes? are you running a K&N filter element? land rovers are really sensitive to the filter oil. try a dry element and clean the maf. i have a source for used rover parts in seattle- British Auto Center-206-935-0872 or British Parts Intl in Houston-1-800-231-6563. the part no. is on the part, if my memory serves me right it is ERR5595. also o2 sensors are a problem on those too. hope this helps, motobob

J10-401 your advice about cleaning the MAF helped. The tech also found some burnt wires to a sensor. Fuel was not burning in its entirety. After 2 hrs of cleaning and replacing some wires disco passed. Tech also mentioned that I should add a bottle of lucas fuel treatment, change plugs, wires and fuel would burn better. Thanks everyone for advice.
