Chevy L92 cylinder head creates 551 hp @6,800 rpm & 464 tq @5,400 rpm out of a junk yard 6.0L chevy according to car craft. This 6.0L was outfitted with the L92 cyl. heads, cam ,headers, high rise intake, 850 carb. The L92 head is off the new 6.2L and flows over 300 cfm. The best part is you can buy these heads assembled for $1,050, for the pair. They claim 550 hp for under $4,900, they purchased a complete used long block for $1,100 but ive seen these engines for dirt cheap. There are a couple companies out there making a decent set of rods and pistons for under $1000. Sounds like some pretty cheap horse power to me, what do you think? Check the article out at car craft.

I have some friends building 6.0's similarly. It suposed to be very easy to hit the 500hp mark.

What is a good cam for off-road racing with the 6.0 (LQ4 or LQ9)? I think a lot of torque needs to come in early.

go to www.performancetrucks.net and go to the chevy/gmc section and search in there.

I watch that site regularly. Almost all of the discussion is about 1/4 mile times, high stall TC and increased HP without much concern about torque loss. A few people want to improve towing capability. Nothing about desert racing.

I've heard the VHP 112 is good one. Supposed to be a torque monster. There's some decent info on peformancetrucks.net but you have to sift through a lot of worthless(to us anyway) stuff to get to it.
I've heard a lot of good things about those L92's but Car Craft has been known to inflate their #'s.
EDIT - Link to the Vinci Cams for truck motors

We are not ready for a cam right now. Still getting the suspension right.
The VHP 112 looks good as does the Crane Cam #1449561.

actually if you search the right forums that site has good info. Start a thread and see what comes back.
I have a 5.3l gm in my truck and got ideas for my motor in there.
usually what it is, porting and polishing, cam, custom tune, heads, pistons, and FI. But since FI is not allowed just the other stuff. You dont have to lose torque with all that.
