 Anyone out there have an idea what the Dyno for a B16 motor should look like for a class 10 car? We had our engine built by a very reputable Honda Motor Builder, but he has no experience in Off-Road motors, just street and drag. Our motor seems to keep bogging down anytime we get in loose dirt or up hills. I am thinking we aren't getting the torque we need at the required RPM's. Any ideas what may be causing this? Able to provide some info on how the motor should be tuned or know a of a reputable offroad guy familiar with tuning Honda's around Orange County?
Thanks,
Kash

with our car, it went on a Chassis Dyno at Lethal dose Injection in El Cajon, CA, but there are lots of places that have chassis dyno. Danzio in Temecula area is another in So Cal, not sure who might be closest for you though.

Hey Kash I am going to be honest with you. At the Parker 425 I was lined up behind you. What I kept saying to myself was " That looks like a big heavy class 10 car." I think you even had 2 spare tires on the car. I caught you guys about a mile into the race (however I didnt finish). In this class you have to be very weight conscientious. I would guess your car weighs in the neighborhood of 2500 plus lbs. I think you will find the biggest gain if you do whatever you can to lighten the car.

Hi Im new to this but my family been dessert raceing since the early 80's and ive been import drag raceing and circuit racing for awail and torque shouldent be aproblem if you have the right rearing because b16 have considerly more power and tq then a vw motor but they have vtec and it dosent kick in tell around 5300rpms so if your not high enough into the power band above vtec you will fill like your bogged down I would recamend take tha motor out and getting a b18a/b non vtec and that should make a drastic improvement. Or get your tranny re geard for the b16 power band. Hope that helps, By the way who tuned it and is this mounted to a vw tranny. Where did you get the adapter. Good Luck

Alright you have come back to the dark side. There is only one way to drive those honda engines on the floor all the time. Try buying a set of scales from LongAcre. it will help. The VW engine is lighter for sure. Here are a couple Ideas for lightening your car if you are up for it. Make your main skid plate under your feet out of .090 6061 aluminium or even down to .052. but keep the skid under your motor out of 1/4 inch. Sparco seats are anywhere from 10-12 lbs lighter than a mastercraft or beard. Run only one spare tire im sure that they weigh a good 50lbs each. Hope this helps. Looking forward to seeing you guys at the next BITD race.
