I moved to the bay area about 18 years ago. My political views are a little conservative but I get along. I have seen some weird stuff and have bit my tongue more than once but this is outrageous IMHO. I respect and admire anyone who joins the armed forces and to see what goes on in this part of the country, specifically Berkley, just boggles my mind. Medea Benjamin is always on the news up here and I turn the page or channel when she comes on. I'm just speechless on this one, Oh the bay area.

Pull all federal and State funding from the town and the school.
Period.
let them destroy themselves from the inside out.
The citizens who don't agree might take a stand and tell code pink to go away.
Or it will demise qwikly and the rest of the country will see what code pink really stands for...
Just my thoughts on the issue.
Send an Email to Boxer or Frankenstin and ask them to step in (I did), I sent one to Jim DeMint applauding his efforts.

You took the words right out of my mouth. What is next the police dept can not recruit from the schools as well. After all they carry guns and inforce laws and protect use from terrorism as well. Also what are 15 and 16 year old's doing out of school at a anti war rally anyways the cops should have gave them tickets for being truint and took them back to school. Most people i know that are 15-16 years old don't know sh?? about politics and use it as an excuse to not go to school.

Again, the antics of corrupt old Hippies backfire in their face.
These jerks wish for the days of the Viet Nam era where they reveled in villainizing our military on all aspects to the point of insulting individuals in public and spitting in their faces.
IMVSO the passing of every old Hippie makes the world a much better place!

What I find funny in all this is Medea Benjamin probably has no idea what the original connotation of a "Code Pink" actually is. Especially since they consider themselves a feminist group.

When my daughter was selecting a college, she did the college tour thing. She wanted to go to Berkeley for their tour. So we spent a day in Berkeley. They were so proud of their past "freedom of Speech" and protesting. But they only are pro freedom of speech when it's their view. I love the double standard.

Yes I am glad and very blessed to be an American...Unfortunately 'FREE Speech' is a one way street most of the time. Besides the fact that most of us probably don't have time to go and protest because of work, responsibilities etc...Whenever someone stands up for what is right they are called a racist, bigot, you name it and shouted down etc...Unfortunately free speech only applies to lefty whiners. Their right to complain overrides your right to 'FREE Speech'

I'm curious about how Berkeley got so incredibly screwed up in the first place. It was settled during the California Gold Rush era by very hard-working people with absolutely no use for politics. Prospectors, entrepreneurs, farmers, craftsmen, and everyday people turned wilderness into a thriving area within about a decade, and everybody was content with their lives. So what happened? Did some Martian mind-swap take place? Or a secret CIA black ops experiment go awry? Did everybody simultaneously have a lobotomy? Why is there an entire town full of whiny, weak, self-absorbed America haters and why do they keep ending up on the news? Is there something in the water that causes Berkeleyites to hate everyone else, and consider themselves the chosen ones?

Its funny you should say that. The CIA was actually involved in tests during the early 60's that took place at Stanford and were meant to explore the weaponizing potential of this new substance called LSD. A writer named Ken Kesey took part in these tests and wrote his book One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest during that period.
And the LSD must have been pretty easy to get hold of because it didn't take Kesey long to get his hands on a bunch of it and head north to the Haight and his friends - the soon to be Grateful Dead. So yeah, the CIA actually WAS involved in a way.
Read Tom Wolfe's The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test if you want the whole story. Good read.

I have a few opinions on this. The military recruiters have every right to have a store front in whatever city they choose. If you don't like it do what you would do to any other store, don't go there. I won't go into the civic needs of military service, but I think we all agree that the military is needed and we are fortunate to have the luxury of optional service. I am really disappointed in the city council's superficial stance in the matter. The military is not responsible for the Iraq war. They follow orders, you cannot hold them accountable for a failed policy. Let the blame fall with those who ordered them to go. For those not aware, California as a whole gives the Federal government more money than we take in from Federal funding. Maybe if they did withhold the funding we could withhold ours and help with the state's budget.

Aging Hippies. All the old Haight Ashbury - Summer of love crowd. Everyone thinks hippies were just drug addicts etc...Not so...They did a lot of dope (weed, LSD etc...) but were mostly teens/young adults from well-to-do families, educated people that were just expressing themselves etc...Sex, Drugs and Rock-n-Roll. Black and white became gray...right and wrong turned into, if it feels good - Do it. The Haight Ashbury was a communal hippie neighborhood in Frisco and somewhat glamorized by the media. People from all over the country started flocking there. There were even tour busses. Next thing you know, San francisco was overrun with homeless teens, hard core drug addicts - serious crime. Turned out that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. After Woodstock (hippies last stand) They started to realize that in order to survive, they had to get jobs and become part of a society they didn't agree with. They realized that they could only make their changes by working within the system etc...So that is what the educated hippies did. They became lawyers, business owners etc...Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Dennis Hopper...to name a few. Think of all the liberal politicians now...most of them part of that era. We used to have Democrats - Now we have liberals AKA Hippies and now they have POWER - This TIME IT'S FOR REAL!

Are you talking about "per capita, federal income tax"? If so, that is mostly relative per the population of that state.
Now, I am 100% in support of California seceding from the union. How can I help?

Steve Jobs is a devote liberal and Dennis Hopper really does not matter but, Bill Gates - a Hippie? Nope.
Think of all the liberal politicians now...most of them part of that era. We used to have Democrats - Now we have liberals AKA Hippies and now they have POWER - This TIME IT'S FOR REAL!
The core of the Hippie generation represent the very, extreme far left today as socialists and Marxists and indeed they have control of the Democratic party.
One of their mantras is blind allegiance to radical environmentalism, mostly because "it feels good to them". One aspect of radical environmentalism is the removal of liberties and the banning of motorized recreation on public lands.
Like I have said, the death of every old Hippie makes the world a better place.

Indeed, but let's expand into full left-wing, eco-radical, human race hating reality.
It's not just "save a tree and kill a baby" it is "kill a baby in the last days of pregnancy and spare the trees as reverent, living beings".
You are also very right about the failure of the left ideologies. Take a drive through Humbolt County on 101 and witness dirty, decrept towns with no future and then drive across the border to Oregon to clearly evident prosperity.

It is my understanding that if California were it's own country, it would be the eighth largest economy in the world..can anyone verify or correct that?
Everyone please understand that not all Californians condone these actions. I myself think these liberal kitties should be deported to Bogata, and then practice all the free speech they want. See how long they last, and if by some chance we find it in our hearts to forgive them and allow them to return, see how their attitude changes:cool:
Californians: CALL YOUR SENATORS BARBARA BOXER AND DIANE FEINSTEIN AT THE FOLLOWING NUMBERS:
Senator Boxer: 202-224-3553
Senator Feinstein: 202-224-3841
Leave messages expressing your "concern and embarassment that you are feeling as a resident of the greatest state in the country due to a group of extreme liberal whack jobs"

WTF? What a wackjob city council..... I can't wait to see them royally 'eff this one up... (From the linked article):
"The college Republicans are fighting to acquire the same parking permits that Code Pink has. A resolution to grant the group an equal permit will be entered and voted upon in the May 20 city council meeting."
Right, like that's going to get approved without some legal leaning and threats of litigation....
On a side note, these Code Pink folks are out of control- My wife got into a shouting match with a lady in front of the White House last year at Police Week- Long story short, my 2 year old and wife were picking up their free speech litter they were putting all over the White House fence when she started screaming at my wife that she didn't know what it meant to have someone in Iraq.... Wrong answer since my wife's little brother was over there and mine was getting ready to ship out... It was nice to see my wife's wrath directed at someone else for a change- Almost impressive even!
