Dude that Chicken is expensive, and that Meat better be Skirt Steak (Arrachera). Santa Fe is also also expensive but good. We'll have to try it out.

Try La Bodega in San Ysidro (San Ysidro Blvd & 805 Fwy) Marinated Chicken is 1.85 a pound and Carne Asada Preparada para Asar (Prepared, Marinated) is 2.50 a pound. That's where I buy my meat.

In refrigerated trucks right? How good is the carne when shipped across the country by ground 3 or 4 days later?

Santa Fe has been a favorite since I was a kid.

The best is of course home-prepped carne. Mmmmm

As for restaurants that have good carne, there is a small "cafe" here in Bonita called "Jalisco Cafe"...Really, really good carne asada.

We picked up some (15lbs) from Oscars in Blythe while down at the Parker race. Been getting it there for 25+ years. It is the best there is. Pricey yes, but well worth it.

Thanks alot. It's been a while since I had some decent tacos. But it's true. The Carne Asada from there is by far the best prepared meat I've ever had.

The best Carne I've ever had is a toss up between Palapa De Joses in the La Mision/ La Fonda area and the little hole in the wall taco stand caddy corner to papas and beer in Rosarito.

As for carne you cook yourself I haven't tried that much but the "flap meat" from Asaderos market in Yucaipa is decent.

How about some places in OC.
I know of a place in Cypress (Valley View and Lincoln ) called Martinez Meats. Owner has his HOT daughters working there. Pretty pricey though, like 5.99 a lb.
Another place is called El Toro Market in Cypress, right down the street from Martinez. Lincoln and Walker. 4.99 a lb there too. I remember a few years back this **** used to cost 1.99 a pound. Its only flap meat but popularity has made the cost sky rocket.

Baja Bronco... my homie used to live in Rancho Santa Margarita. Now he lives in Norco, he says the BEST place by far is El Toro Meat Market over there in your neck of the woods off of the 5 and El Toro. Look it up. He still makes the trip to that place all the way from Norco to scoop up some dead cow before we hit Glamis. Kinda pricey though, but off the shizzle fo sho!!!!!

Kennedy's Market all the way. Over the years many people have told me to go here or there for "the best" carne asada - none stood up. I've never found anything close this side of the mountains. Also, if you drive over you can stop at Mt. Signal Cafe for football quesadillas.

OK heres the Deal... How do you like your Carne? There are different ways to prepare it. If you like it with a lil lemon flavor " Valley Style" try Ramey's or the Pico Market. Kennedy's is'nt what they were and is really over rated. If you guys want The Best Valley Style Carne by far then Go to Food Farm "Roys" in El Cajon they will also vacum seal it so you can take it pre running and not have it get water in it. There is a Large TT Team from Vegas that makes A special trip every time they go racing down here just to pick up their carne from me. I have it sealed in 3lb bags and then I freeze it. Works great for pre running and racing. The team wont let me show up to Vegas with out at least 5-10lbs of Carne and Pollo. And all this time I thought they ;iked me for my witty banter and cat like reflexes. There our closley gaurded secret carne spot is out.

A lil history lesson: Before refrigeration when the meat would start to go bad the outside layer of funk was scraped off and then seasoned and doused with lime to hide the taste. Or something like that.

Next time your in Parker, make a run down to Lake Manor Market. I haven't had their carne asada in years, but when I used to make it, it was the best selling meat at that market. My family still asks me to make it on Christmas Eve, it has become a tradition with us. They also have some awsome meat kabobs that have a special bbq sauce.

In East County (San Diego) Rodeo Market on Broadway next to Yogurt Mill. Street taco style. Their spicy pork is also good. Rodeo is an authentic mercado.

For people looking to buy their own carne, try El Campeon in San Juan Capistrano. At the intersection of Del Obispo and Camino Capistrano...you know it's good 'cause that's where all the local Mexicans buy their stuff!

What about recipes? Who's got em?it's very thin cut aged cross cut flank steak. you can season it anyway you like. use a hot mezquite fired bbq. throw it on. count to twenty, turn it over. count slow to 8 or ten. leave your knife in your pocket. you only will need a fork.

all things being equal, the seasoning or maranade will be the key if you have the good meat. and true carne asada starts with the aging process. it actually is at the borderline on being spoiled or rotten. that's where the protein breaks down making it really tender. that's all adolphs meat tenderizer does. it breaks down protein. that's also why it works on stingray barb wounds as well. sting rays kick out protein, not poison when you step on em'. sorry to drift away.now back to where the best carne asada joints are at.

I agree! Sante Fe Meats is best I've ever had. Fortunate for me they are only 15 minutes away. This past year's Super Bowl Sunday (Saturday Eve), there was an hour+ waiting line just to get to the front counter. One guy I talk to drove 2 hours to buy his Carne Asada from this joint. Be interesting to see how it compares to Kennedy's. For now, Santa fe Meats in Chula Vista is tops.
