So Robby is planning on finishing (1st) on April 26th, let's say post race ceremonies take it into the evening of the 26th European time, then flies back to Talledega via private jet arriving sometime in the wee morning hours of the 27th to race? I wonder who will practice/qualify for him...PJ?

Word on the street is the course is more Baja and less WRC...

Yeah, that is what I was thinking when looking at the sat pics. Fast dirt roads. I hope there are some huge dips. The Euros will be shocked when The Monster takes off for sub-orbital lift off! LOL

I can't wait to see the landings with the little cars. :)

Will the new racevenue be good for Robby (and his companion) or not? My first guess was that the 4wd cars would have the advantage on narrow dirtroads, but if it's more like Baja I'm not so sure. Anyway, everyone is there for the first time so no one has any more knowledge about the course, which also could be good for Robby. It will be interesting to see how the race develops.

Searched around and couldn't find anything in Versus programming, we can always hope.

On a recent TORR interview with RG he said that John Menard was flying him back to Talladega on his private jet. With the time zones he would be flying back in time and arriving at close to the same time he left Budapest or wherever.

PJ is going to practice and "Qualify" the car for the race. As long as RG stays inside the top 35 he's guaranteed a starting spot. As long as he makes the drivers meeting Sunday morning, I think, he keeps his spot and won't have to go to the back of the field.

I'm going to send them an email, maybe if enough people do a quick email they'll check into carrying the feed from Europe.

09-04-2008 - Snow in Romania : change of the route

The organizers had to change the route of the Romanian part of the Central Europe Rally (April 20 – 26) because of the snow in the region of Sovata.

After spending a lot of time and energy trying to clean the “roads” from the snow, A.S.O. decided to cancel the stages scheduled around Sovata for security reasons. Indeed, the timing for the recos in order to make a very complete road book was to short because of the important quantity of snow that prevent the sporting team to work on the route.

The Central Europe Rally will take place around Baia Mare in Romania. The competitors will arrive on Sunday 20th April afternoon, compete in four “special stages” on Monday and Tuesday and then follow their course back to Hungary.
The assistance park will be on the Bvd Unirii in Baia Mare.

F it!! They can't run in a little snow!?!? Now THAT would have been great to see...the black H3 on a backdrop of pure white, ripping through snowdrifts...Somebody better tell RG and BJ to bring their mittens, mukluks, and heat packs...

This will be Grider's second trip to Romania, having competed on a KTM in the 2006 "Romaniacs" competition. Don't know if this rally will be over some of the same route or not.

They get more than "a little" snow over there.

Does anyone know which day next week has the longest stage. Planning my days off. Dakar had shown the km for each stage, until the snow detour. Now they aren't showing how long each stage is.

The link Chase refers to has a route showing the longest specials being,

Thursday April 24 210 km.
Friday April 25 210 km.

The longest overall is 580 km on Wednesday with a 150km special

I don't know if this info was published before or after the snow detours.

Here's a bunch of info for spectators that I converted into a Google Earth file:
http://www.hogwildracing.com/other/CentralEuropeanRally2008/CentralEuropeRally2008.kml

And the same info I put into Garmin and Lowrance GPS files:
http://www.HogWildRacing.com/other/CentralEuropeanRally2008/

The "Specials" file contains small segments of the race course, but only in the marked spectator areas.
