With two more races to go some big teams could be looking in from the outside.

30 70 MARGARET HAAS 255
31 00 ROB KAUFFMAN 255
32 96 JEFFREY MOORAD 246
33 44 MICHAEL WALTRIP 230
34 55 MICHAEL WALTRIP 230
35 5 MARY HENDRICK 219
36 22 BILL DAVIS 212
37 40 FELIX SABATES 200
38 77 ROGER PENSKE 192
39 01 TERESA EARNHARDT 183
40 45 KYLE PETTY 177

Anyone gets a bad finish this week and it pretty much spells doom.

It will be interesting to see what MWR does after the first five race. DJ retires and DR replaces him in the #44 car. MWR has already made a statement saying they would not switch points from the #00 to the #44 if needed. But I wonder when that time comes and if the #00 is in the top 35 and the #44 is not would they change their mind and ask NASCAR to switch the points around. My guess is yes and even though it would make them look stooped for doing what they said they would not do, I would not blame them. Actually I will be shocked if they dont do it.

My guess is the #5 will get in the top 35 as they have way to many resorces and Mears can qualify his way in if they needed too. I think Petty is done. He will probably get out of the seat more this year and start trying other drivers as they will need to do something. A few of these open wheelers will be thinking maybe the money is good in NASACR but I know I can race in the IRL. Also they will probably give RG a little more credit then he is getting now.

POS Racing is still at the bottom after the first three races. I for one will enjoy seeing POS sweat it yet again and watching all of those big sponsors jump ship. Napa will not go thru this again. Napa sure would make a great sponsor for the 71 RGM Dodge with Gaughan driving:D

Yeah it would be great to see POS total his car this week and miss the race next week.

It would be cool if NASCAR added a road course in the first 5 races and one in the last 5.

You would see all kinds of teams out of the top 35 throwing in ringers.

I wonder how Hornish will do on the Road Courses.

The sponsors will stay for THIS YEAR....but MWR will most likely have a two car stable come '09. Kyle Petty may be a respected personality in NASCAR, but come on dude, you were washed up five years ago and Bobby is making you look like the tail marker of all tail markers.

In about four or five races the dust will settle and it will come around to a half a dozen teams fighting four that coveted 35th spot and the rest either running away or grasping at thin air. RGM needs to start thinking like a solid top 20 team and not even talk about the top 35 ever again.

The guy that needs to be concerned is Mears. HMS fights for championships not the top 35. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised that if Casey is not in the top 30 by Charlotte, he may not be sitting in anything but a bleacher.

Actually, that is not necessarily the truth.......MWR has to refund the sponsor for each race they do not make, this was something disclosed last year. Toyota helped pick up the slack last year but may not this year. MWR even eluded to the fact that sponsors could back out of their contract if the team does not satisfy the performance clause built into the contracts.

MWR is a pathetic organization at best, and Im not even saying that because I dislike Waltrip. They focused on making this huge fan friendly team with a shop catered to visitors, swayed a bunch of big name sponsors to sign on, and started a three car team when in reality a two car team was biting off more than they could chew.

If Toyotas dollars were not behind that team, and they were a GM or Ford or even Dodge team, they would be close to closing shop. They drove two great sponsors from the sport with empty promises, and continue to under-achieve.

RGM might not compete on size and flash, but at least they have competitive cars from time to time. And they focus on racing, something MWR didnt start focusing on until it was too late last year.

Ill be interested to see where they stand by the midpoint of this season. There are many teams in the garage area that achieve more with less than MWR. Red Bull Racing, I think, has showed much greater promise. They might have an issue qualifying, but they race well. Lets not forget for a time Vickers dominated the 600 last year, with a car that had no power steering and was frying his feet. And RBR did not have the head start MWR had.

POS racing is on the fence. With Gibbs coming on, and performing straight out of the gate, it doesn't look good. POS had a year to get it right, and build cars. With a single car effort outperforming him on a consistant basis, the TV booth looks like a better fit for him. Keep in mind, his credibility is going straight to the crapper too. I don't think his own brother talking him up on TV can save him.

I agree, but I think his older brother talking up is a big reason why he is still here. He was never anything special before DEI, he won some restrictor plate races with DEI and is back to being nothing special again. That pretty sums up POS's nascar career

POS and his 55 car are 35th now. With Bill Davis only a few points behind. Blaney will smoke him at the next track... That's if he even makes it in.

Kurt Busch should bag it this weekend so DJ can't use the PCP. Because Hornish is sitting in 36th.
