Bristol will be ok so long as he qualifies better than 20th. The new car seems to take a good beating. Hopfully GEM can give RG some good data. This is now a track that we have actual data from with this car via last year. Now not only does RG have his own data but also GEM's 3 cars with past data.

Im looking forward to Martinsville, where supposedly RG will be getting a chassis built from the ground up by GEM.

I just thought of this, now that the nose-gate has died down. Im certain we were all told the cars Robby would use for the Daytona 500 would be from GEMs shop, since he was changing manufacturers a week before Speedweeks. But all the news that came out after the 500 said that RGM put the wrong nose on the car.

Is there an explination for why we were told he would be getting GEM cars for Daytona, but they were obviously Ford re-skins? (Re-noses I should say) Should I doubt he will be getting a GEM car for Martinsville?

To be honest, I wonder about the alignment already. All the press that came out of GEM stated Robby saw how good they were testing on the 1.5 mile intermidiate tracks and thats why he wanted to align, frankly I havent been impressed with their performance at Vegas or Atlanta. Just making a statement, not complaining, at this point at least, ;)

Last years Bristol wasn't what it normally is on the old chassis. It seemed everybody was playing it safe, hopefully the racing will be better this year

Bristol is always fun to watch. Lets see what Shurb can do there. Also watch out for SMOKE

Lets see how many finish on the lead lap at this track. It seems the top 10 just run away from everyone else lately.

The races at Bristol have been alot different with the new car.....Alot less crash up derby and alot more 3 wide......Will be interesting to see how they do this year

Didn't they change the surface to progressive banking? I think that has had more of an impact on the racing. Before it was the bottom line only or you were screwed, now two grooves...we'll see how it goes.

RGFan
March 10th, 2008, 20:17
Yes, they messed with the banking a little actually decreased it from 36 degrees to progressive 24-30 degrees, new surface (all concrete) and new cars.

WAFJ the NOL Power Rankings are:

http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/features/power_rankings/05/bristol/index.html

They kept the 48 and 24 in the top 15 even though the 83 is having a way better season and even moved up 4 spots

I'm gonna miss the race this weekend driving back from San Felipe...I cut my sirius satellite antenna cord by accident so I'm gonna miss it completely:(

What do you expect, when it's used to throw DJ a bone and he's 32nd in points. They should just move drivers up into the rankings to celebrate their birthdays. At least everyone will a chance once a year.

Link please, RUR runs REAL slow for some reason on my work computer.

I noticed in the entry list RGM is the sponsor, is it the same black one we saw last year?

1st practice is supposed to start in around an hour, but it has been raining off and on since late last night in the Chattanooga area, I am not sure what the weather is like further north where Bristol is...

I hope they don't get rained out this weekend.:D

What a great place to run the rain tires at:D It is funny how the Australian Supercars can run in the rain but not the stock cars. Weight wise, I am sure they are pretty close to one another (600 lbs)........Sure would be fun to see........Ah well

NASCAR used to bring the rain tires to the road course races and even ran the truck series in Portland on the PIR road course for a couple years in hopes of running them with the rain tires in the rain but the weather did not cooperate. I think it would be cool to see the Cup cars in the rain but it would have to be on a road course or some track that does not carry a lot of speed through the turns.

Yea, its impossible to do a rain tire for ovals, for many reasons.

Remember practice and I think qualifying at Suzuka was ran using rain tires. That was fun.

THey brought them to the road courses for several years in cup, and I think they were only able to use them in one practice. What a shame. What ever happened to a driver having to lift in the corners.........Anyways, RG is 13th early in practice at Bristol, Mears is fastest with a sub 12 second lap, while everybody else is running 16 second laps.........Another screwup by Fox obviously. Or they broke T-rex out of dry storage.

Yeah, but the lap time average is more indicative of what kind of car he has....And he is 21st in happy hour and better yet, 5/100 of a second from being top 15;)

TV & FoxTrax showed him 24th...

March 16th, 2008, 15:49
I don't know how long RG would have kept dropping, but Schrader wrecking him early on certainly didn't help.... and another observation- Anyone else find the caution for the 48 a little dubious, if not premature? He got a little slideways, and saved it, but they threw the caution and he nets +4 spots out of the deal after pitting... hmmmmm, more fine work by Na$car...

Only bummer is that POS made that top 35. Oh well, you can't have everything. Jr. is doing great, showing that he can do the deal. Johnson is struggling, funny to see the 48 in the middle of the pack. Glad to see a good racer like Jeff Burton win one. You won't hear him popping off his mouth about tires either.

bajafox
March 17th, 2008, 10:54
I was in line 4 hours coming back from San Felipe and lost another hour in the process so I missed the entire race.

I'm really glad to see Jeff Burton get a win, I hope he makes the chase and contends for the title and nothing is better than seeing the 48 and the 24 outside the top 12, I know the chances are slim to none but I hope it stays that way all season, it's good to see new faces in the top 12. I'd watch more races this season if there are new winners week in and week out
