Martinsville Paperclip this week... it's kind of nice wondering who might win every week this year as opposed last year wondering which Hendrick car was going to win...

...as a side note, Nascar Now on right now on one of the ESPNs- Just went to commercial with a teaser about report cards and showed RG and the 7 car, so should be interesting to see.

Also very interesting discussion regarding the Gibbs addition to Toyota- Kyle Busch's win gave TOyota their first win in Cup as a manufacturer, but what I didn't know is that they are the only 'Yota team that builds their own engines and doesn't have to share info with the other 'Yota teams regarding that...

well, the report card segment only alluded to RG & the other cars that haven't passed inspection and how low their tolerance level is for discrepancies/rule violations... so, predictions/trash talk for the paperclip? Nascar is back!

Robby in victory lane!

Oh wait, I thought this was Robot (Robbys) Uprising... ;)

Ill be happy with a top 25 to be honest. Not really RGs strongest track. Im really hoping for an oddball winner this week, oh yea and for Tony Raines to make the race and finish higher than the #96 car. He got replaced by of all people JJ Yaley, who in my opinion should not be driving a Cup car. Tony is a nice guy, a decent racer, and I have known him since his ASA days in the #87 car.

I know Tony and RG got into it 1 or 2 seasons ago, but that's racing- and I know being from Phoenix and all, I should be pulling for JJ, HOWEVER, I have to agree- Tony getting fired for JJ was barely an even swap and he got short end of that...

Top 25 from the #7 would be a victory this weekend- Hopefully there is plenty of info sharing from GEM to get some speed and a decent Q'ing spot...

why does everyone have such low expectations? is martinsville a particularly bad race or what?

p.s. aol had a list of the top most searched drivers. RG came in at a very surprising 6th. Probably mostly jeff gordon fans seeing if RG is related

Tony will be back in a car at Martinsville..if he can qualify in. Tony is slated for the 08 car at this race.

BTW Tony's sponsor for this race is Rhino Energy Drink Dodge

still no sponsor listed for Robby, he just likes to surprise us.

The sponsor will be Charter. Another sponsor from the #10 car. I figure we will see Valvoline and Charter on RG's car quite a bit this year with the #10 car outside the top 35, and I'm betting the #10 misses several more races this year.

RGM needs to capitalize on these opportunities. Running well for these hand-me-down sponsors could be a turning point in the organization.

I was just reading an article on Dale Jr. about where he’s sitting in the standings. I’ve also been reading a lot on Kyle Busch (I’m a new fan) and started to wonder, what would the standings look like if Junior had gone to the 18 car and Kyle stayed where he was? I admit that I’m only a new fan of Kyle because he now drives a Toyota, along with Stewart, but talent-wise, would Junior still be fifth in the points with Kyle’s current equipment?

Carlos Espinoza
San Diego, Calif.

Obviously, that’s a big hypothetical, Carlos. Had Kyle stayed at Hendrick Motorsports, I think he would definitely still be in the top-10 right now. If Junior went to Joe Gibbs Racing, I think he would have done better than he did at DEI, but I don’t know if I’d say he’d be ranked as high there as he is now at HMS. Maybe he might be top-10, but I don’t think he’d be as high as fifth right now if he had gone to JGR.

If I were a fan of drivers because of their personalities then I'd take what Ronn Bailley told me about RG at the CODE race into consideration and probably wouldn't be much of an RG fan, I dont agree with some of the things RG does too, but he can drive the crap out of just about anything and it makes him fun to watch on any track or course

I like Kyle cause whether he's a prick or not, the guy has talent. I dont agree with alot of the stuff he does off the track, but the guy is 22 years old..

It was fun watching him slide around corners in the passed few races and taking risks that 95% of the other drivers dont

Agree. Kyle may be a prick, but it'd be ridiculous to say that he isn't one of the fastest guys on the track, every week. Shock tower failure, tire issues, etc. and he'd have a couple more wins under his belt this year.

I've jumped on the Kyle Busch train, the kid can flat out drive a race car.

You can't deny that, as like Ryan_P said, if it weren't for power steering issues, he'd have 2 wins this season.

All my NASCAR apparrell is RG related, but I think it's time I get me an M&Ms shirt:D

I can understand you dont like Kyle, I dispised him the past 2 seasons mainly because he was under the HMS banner, but I'm gonna have fun watching him win more races, make the chase and hopefully give Toyota it's first Cup

I'm a big RG fan, but his reputation with sponsors in the passed don't exactly show he's a great person to work with. Do you personally know Ronn Bailey? Maybe you know something I dont...I had a beer and got a chance to talk to him for a few minutes and I think he's a pretty cool guy. What are you talking about????

I have had many opportunities to meet and work with/around RG and he really is a good guy. He was very nice and accomodating to me while I was working on my articles with him and his team. He also was very nice and playful with my son who was 15-years old at the time!:D In other words I have talked to and met RG many times and feel that he is a genuinely nice guy.

I have only met Ronn once, it was at the SEMA RG press conference this last year and he seemed like a glory hound. I was hanging back waiting to chat with Robby and RB walked up to me (I was there as a press member with my camera on my tripod) and asked me if I wanted to take a picture of him and the poster of the team vehicles. I felt obligated and said okay and he went over to it a gave a very laughable pose with his wannabe rock-star sunglasses on inside the building. Personally I was turned off by his "LOOK AT ME, I'M AS COOL AS ROBBY" attitude and my first impression of him is that he is a self promoter that has a lot of money and wants to show it off as much as he can. I never had this type of feeling around RG.

Martinsville is a tough track and I am being realistic (I think) in saying I would love to see the 7 finish in the top 15 but I expect to see him finish in the top 25 1 lap down... I hope I am pleasantly surprised!!!

I like Kyle better now that he drives for Gibbs and I like him a lot more than his brother. Kurt is a phoney.

Kyle seems to be a lot happier at Gibbs. It was kind of like weasel-see, weasel-do over at Hendrick (see Jeff Gordon whine, ...see Kyle Busch whine...). He gets to be himself more with Gibbs.

Ok, I see what you meant. When I walked up to Ronns car the sun was behind me and it was hitting him straight in the face, he held his hand up to block it and after a minute or so it dawned on me that it was bothering him so I stepped in front of it so he wouldn't have to block it just cause some guy with a beer at 9am decided to come up and talk to him. Some drivers won't go out of their way to talk to fans, just thought it was cool that he was willing to put up with the sun striaght in his eyes to talk to some random guy

I've had the opportunity to talk to RG a few times but I usually always just leave him alone, I get more "star struck" from seeing Ivan Stewart than I do from seeing RG. I did take the opportunity to take a pic with Boris Said once at the Baja 1000, that's one tall ars guy...

Waltrip: Our team took Roush Fenway part by 'mistake'

Roush claims sway bar stolen by a Toyota team last year

TRD's White: We had nothing to do with missing Roush Fenway part

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Michael Waltrip confirmed Friday afternoon that it was his team that Jack Roush was alluding to when saying a Toyota team had stolen a sway bar from Roush Fenway Racing at Dover last September.

“It was a mistake,” Waltrip said. “Look at the back of these toolboxes. There are sway bars, there’s jack handles, and it wound up in our possession. We called them and said, ‘We want to give this back.’ ”

Earlier in the day, Hendrick Motorsports driver Jeff Gordon said the issue is “good entertainment” and that he hopes that Roush isn’t taking it too seriously. He said if Roush is really upset then Gordon wants to know “what’s going on with that sway bar. Maybe there’s something that we’re missing that really truly is contributing to how fast their cars are going.”

Waltrip referred to Gordon’s comments on the issue and indicated that Gordon was more unbiased than Waltrip himself could be from the inside.

“I would like for Jeff Gordon to be our spokesman on this one,” Waltrip said. “I think he summed it up really well.”

Tristar Racing
March 28th, 2008, 16:58
Honestly, I really dislike Michael Waltrip, but Im on his side with this one. The sway bar is hardy proprietary equipment, its a tube of metal that acts in torsion to transfer cornering forces. Its not black magic or anything. Other than slight differences on end links, not much can be different.

Roush is trying to shift attention away from his oil cooler stunt, in my own opinion.

michael_loomis
March 28th, 2008, 17:08
what if its gun drilled and internally tapered (then the ends welded up and ground flush)! or if the links are designed to flex!

I dunno.. I'm stretchin here.. lol.. but these guys try every trick in the book! and then some!

Most end links on street cars do flex. That compromises the bars capability. In terms of being gun drilled and tapered, many sway bars are hollow, torsional strength is more about the material at the very edges of a cylindirical object than it is about the material at the core; hence a hollow bar gives up little to a solid one.

Not trying to argue, just give some engineering knowledge, :)

Yes they use every trick in the book, but this is equivilent to taking the wheels from another team, they might be slightly different but no one has some secret LEGAL advantage, haha.

"Unfortunately, the car just didn't come to the race track the way it was supposed to. I didn't have the right parts on it and didn't figure it out until it was too late. When you only get an opportunity to go out there and bust a couple of laps, you're on the conservative side a little bit. We have tomorrow to work on it. Wait till happy hour tomorrow. He has a new secret weapon.

Did you have inside info? Robby eluded to not having proper equipment in that press release. Interesting...

Unrelated, any of you peoples that think Kyle Busch is a great driver, watch the truck race finish. He takes out two of Bil Davis Racings Toyotas (SKinner might have had a problem, either way so much for "Team Toyota"), and for what? Those guys are actually running for the championship.

Kyle Busch has talent, but he is an asshat, period. I hope someone re-arranges his face. Give him an excuse to get platic surgery like his big brother. His pathetic interview complained he got spun out after he spun two people is just icing on the moron cake.

And the second interview after the race is Chrissy Wallace, because she finished 17th? Nascar, dont stoop down to IRLs level...

Sadler hurt his back on Wednesday, probably drunken circus tricks including bologna burgers:D Anyways, they are keeping very mum on what exactly happened, except for the fact that it really bothers him in the sitting position. Sadler hopes to start the race, he will have Setzer as back up just in case.

Typical immature cocky 20 y/o punk that needs an attitude adjustment Jimmy Spencer style. Those old cranky arsed truck guys are going to start spinning his arse out of the race if he keeps it up.

Looks like Robby and Casey are both moving up from the back.

Robby just crashed with Skinner. Looks like it's damage free but probably flat spotted the tires.

As they went to commercial it looked like Jimmie was about to pass Kenseth, which would put Robby right behind him. You know he's going to be charging hard to pass him while not letting McMurray get by.

Mullet Mayfield gets the free pass. He had just dropped like a rock from 30th to a lap down in a couple laps. Robby passed Kenseth under caution. 2 tires vs. 4? Fuel only?

Just keep passing the cars that the leaders pass so he can stay in that Lucky Dog position.

The only reason I still watch these races is the scanner thing on Nascar.com, otherwise Id probably not even bother. Even then, Im in and out of the room.

Its been that way since I started with Nascar in the late 80s, the only races Im glued to the TV for are the plate tracks and the road courses. (Even before Robby with the road courses, one of the few places underdog road course aces could sneak a win)

Ya I never used to watch and now with trackpass it actually makes it interesting listening to any of the drivers whenever ya want. Would never just watch a race without it. I am going to goto the Fontana race this year though so we'll see how that goes lol.
