It doesn't hurt to have a co-driver with a good voice, and knows the words to Tiny Dancer. But seriously....if he or she knows how to read a GPS right, then everything is up to the driver.

agreed dan, co-riders have to know some good songs. we were singing a little bit last weekend during the mint and have sung in every race i've road in. when i'm riding, i just talk to my driver a lot, call out turns/skull & crossbone markers, the direction of the course while in dust, and mainly just trying to keep him happy and on point.

and i thought my dad was the only one who sung while drivin. everytime we go off the laughlin leap he sings 'i want to fly like an eagle' i normaly turn my headset down at that point and by the startline he stops singin and turns my volume back up. lol

let the driver know whats ahead, especially at speed. relay course notes. let'm know when to relax 4 a sec and regroup if things are stressful. keep an eye on all functions/ gauges. urinate thru tube onto the floorboards and toolbags if applicable. feed'm rags to clean visor. toot the horn. aim the lights. quick flats. mech. knowledge. no whining, and hopefully, no puking. it the expectaition needs from night to day are night and day

When co doging with Pistol Pete i usually spend most of my time talking him out of bashing everyone we are passing. It seems to be the only thing that makes him happy that and fast tire changes.

"Hold me close now tiny dancer", I got that one down...I think Luke like's to hear "Fly Like an Eagle" by Steve Miller. I got the whole song out during the pre-run back in October, including that cool intro then into a soft rockin' "Time keeps on slippin' slippin' slippin', into the future"

watch the rear view mirror for a yellow TL

I want to make the joke about seeing the Yellow TL in our "rear" view mirror, but since you did finish ahead of us at the Mint, I guess I better wait until next time. Then again from what I see of the pictures it was probably difficult to tell the color of that particular TL from the front side toward the end of the race.

My navigator spotted that yellow TL just fine when it passed us as we were changing our flat.

My driver likes me to talk to him almost constantly. I tell him the direction of the corners and all dangers. In the 1000 I would warn him when he was going to be looking into the sun after a turn. We were up in Mike's looking right into the sun and it sucked. So I tried to help warn him so he wasn't surprised and drive off the course. Keeping an eye out for bikes is also a very important job. I would hate to run one over. When he does something exceptionally well, I compliment him also. This, in my opinion, keeps the morale up when we aren't running up front, which has yet to happen. I also keep him from driving the wheels off the car in the first few miles.
I haven't yet gotten sick, but I was close in the 1000, but thankfully I had to get out of the car at the next pit to check a couple of things on the car, and I was fine when I got back in.

I haven't had to change a flat yet, but that won't be a quick process, we don't have on board air like a most of you guys. That needs to be added still.

My favorite job is running the police siren we have.

OK, we go to the KOTD, my wife has me set her up with a new ultra trick scanner so that when she isn't working on the car in the pits, (we had a lot of problems), she could listen for "someone" singing Tiny Dancer. She is so bummed, she only heard it on 2 passes by a certain 1600 car. What's up with that?

my song of preference is "man I feel like a woman" by shania twain pahahahaha
but really being a co dawg for so long has taught me that to be a good co driver you need to know what your driver wants and be able to give it to them communication is key - every driver is different - some just want you to read out gps points and some like cone head want to see a 5'1 125 lb girl change a one car tire before they let her get in..... ahahaha :D

hey one of our co-driver is a 5' 125lb 18year old girl. She is pretty good at changin the tires and can set up the backlash on a 9in like no ones buisness. She is one of our best mechanics.
