Okay JG won the pole and the race in the spring Phoenix race last year and JJ won the fall race at Phoenix, can either of them get the win this weekend?

I think Dale Jr. looks good for the win as he has run well at the flat Phoenix mile in the past and most of the Hendrick cars seem to be running well...

Does anyone know why the Phoenix races are only 500k? I think it would be much better to run one of them as a 500 mile race and the other race as a 400 mile race. What do you guys think???

RG has a lot of experience at the Phoenix mile can he turn it into a good finish???

Who are your pick for the pole and win this week? I like the 88 for both! :D

hahaha, that's cool

lnhartman3 -- This is so weird ... I live in Phoenix and I can't think of much to do! One thing that is pretty fun is the Speedway Raceway over by Sky Harbor Airport. They have a really cool go-kart track and their go-karts go pretty fast, but other than that I can't think of much more!

That guy should get a freebie from Pistola:D

That exposure is awesome for Pete- Maybe all the business will mean he can keep his Geiser roller and finish building it instead of selling it!

I watched practice. He had a crap car when he first hit the truck. He didn't run very many laps, went back to the garage a few times to make changes, and drastic it seems like. I just hope they get the race day setup right..

this guy needs a great rally result to boost confidence overall. if he keeps this up, he'll be one of those "go or go homers" again. it's too hard to keep moving up through the field all the time. very frustrating.

I have my cousins wedding Saturday night, this is the 2nd year I'm missing the Phoenix night race, my favorite "local" race

Hope the 7 car can stay out of trouble and get the right adjustments done during the race...looks like it's gonna be a long night

From the looks of everything it does not look good for RG!! Maybe they know something I don't.

I hope for the sake of RG and that I am going to be there they surprise me!!!:D :D

Man wouldn't that be a great time with RG in the winners circle and me walking out with RG gear on!!!!! I would be on top of the world!!!!!:D :D :D

Ran top 15 for half of the race, including running top 10 for a while........Bad adjustment and lack of a caution put him a lap down. Bring on Europe!

Over all the the racing was way better then it has been with the COT. Busch,Harvick and Hamilton battle for many of lap.

RG's car is fast right now, if he was not a lap down, he was second place after 20 laps and maintaining

What a bummer, he has had a top 10 car for the second half of the race......He just can not catch a break tonight with getting his lap back. He finally passed Busch and then Labonte gets lapped.

April 12th, 2008, 22:10
Oh man, what a heart breaker......1 lap short, alot like Indy in 99.........Lost 9 spots in the process, if it would have worked, it would have been a top 10. I have to admit though, after Daytona, that was the most exciting 5 laps of RG racing this season.

April 12th, 2008, 22:44
dang that's frustrating- give them credit for going for it, but I sure wish that top 10 speed would be found in teh first half of the race so it's not a game of catch up and hoping for the LD....

it's encouraging- at least we know the speed can be found... just hope the gas mileage improves before sonoma- I can't handle juan taco winning another gas-caper...

That was an exciting last 20 laps to see(LIVE) if he made it or not.

He was running very well after he was a lap down.

Oh well. Got a lot and I mean a lot of RG gear!

Oh well.

We are all looking forward to the Rally!! I'm expecting better results!!

Good run for RG and the team.Looks like the 48 got another win by "default" I feel for Mark Martin. I wish he could of won it so that he can just retire.

How is that a win by default?? He took a chance and it paid off. If it didin't work Mark Martin still wouldn't have won anyways. I think it was a great and gutsy call by Chad

It was a fuel mileage win, plain and simple. From a team's standpoint, a win is a win. But to some, he inherited the win, he was not the fastest and did not race his way to the front. Personally, I think fuel strategy is a part of the racing equation and they used it to their advantage.....Whatever it takes.

April 13th, 2008, 12:35
Did not race his way to the front??? HUH?? Were you watching the race? He had by far the faster car in the last 50 laps or so. He was in 2nd and GAINING on Martin before he pulled in for fuel. I think JJ earned it fair and square.

We must have watched two different races, he was not the fastest if you were watching the tracking. He led alot of laps in the first half, but he realistically had a top 10 car towards the end, but strategy played a huge part in the win....He was nowhere close to being the fastest car for the last 50 laps. Martin was falling off because he was conserving fuel. Strategy is what got Johnson up there in the first place. That is not to say he did not have a good race. Earnhardt, Martin were the class of the field. If Johnson would have stopped for fuel, would he have caught Martin.........Not a chance in hell. Robby was faster then JJ for the second half last night. The band wagon fans can say it was earned all they want, and it was . But to say fuel strategy did not win it for him is simply foolish or ignorant, whichever fits.;)

JJ and the #48 were one of the fastest cars all day by far. Come on... He led 100 plus laps, got off cycle on a pit stop which caused him to slide to 14th or 15th and then worked his way up to the front. Look, I like RG too but you have to give credit where credit is due and sometimes that means saying that other drivers did well

fishd00d
April 13th, 2008, 14:22
Umm I was watching the tracking he was 4 seconds behind Martin in 4th place and just kept closing. Why would Martin slow down that much to save fuel if he was going to need to stop anyways?? I am not a JJ fan and I dont care who wins but it was pretty clear he had a good car at the end lol.

Dude, what does this have to do with RG? Jr and Martin were the class of the field. You can be on the Johnson bandwagon like the majority all you want, he was fast early. He was good late. But as was stated earlier, he got off cycle. He would not have won the race if he had pitted. For the splash and goes, cars were losing almost a complete lap. How is it that Martin was still on the lead lap to finish the race, not even the last car. simple reasoning states the obvious. Johnson took the lead once the leaders went in for fuel, there is no disputing that. Johnson led 110 of his 120 laps before the halfway mark. He led the final 10 once the leaders went in for fuel with 10 to go. Nascar said that, the national media said that, millions of fans said that.

I am not bashing JJ, he used fuel strategy and it won him the race. Fuel strategy is a part of racing. A win is a win. He would not have won if he stopped for fuel, plain and simple....That was my point.

Must have been a rough weekend for you guys

I don't see it being the JJ bandwagon. I see it giving props where props are do, that's it. You're right he may not have won had MM not come in for fuel however he was gaining on him plain and simple. You can say MM was saving fuel and that's why JJ was gaining on him or whatever but regardless he was gaining on him. Like you said a win is a win..

BTW on Jayski they show RG finishing in 29th place and so did TV, but NASCAR shows RG finished 23rd. So does anyoone know where they actually finished?

And I will say RG was one of the fastest cars on the track with about 35-40 laps to go. But Jimmy was also one of the fastest and at one point they said he was faster then the leaders. And I am not a Jimmy fan at all, but his team played a smart race and was fast enough to get to the front and then started to conserve fuel and made this race a true fuel milage race.

Now for where RG is in the points I think it was not very smart for them to try to push it and make it to the end. Right now they should be points racing and not taking chances. I dont think RGM is good enough to be playing the same game as Hendricks teams are. A few more call's like that and a few more 30th place finishes, we might see RG outside the top 35.
