I'll probably swing by. My office is in downtown LB, so I usually get to see collateral activities (eg dirt bikes flying past my office window). A friend usually hands me VIP tix for the celeb. compound - I may not know who most the celebs are, but at least the food is pedestrian.

Here's what the front straight looks like, pre-race cars (on left, but probably without oncoming traffic); pits are on the right.

I read somewhere that off road racer Beccy Gordon is going to be a pro driver in the celebrity race... pretty cool

Friday through Sunday, 6 am to 6 pm, working pit lane with SCCA emergency pit/fire staff. Remember to:
1)bring earplugs, and
2)hit the king taco truck as early as possible to avoid the rush.

This is the most prestegious open wheel race in the country, yes more so then the 500 anymore. It is legendary sort of like the Monaco GP race but in the States.

All the free spaces have been gone for years, the hotels that over look the track inflate rates 10X for race weekend and usually sell out years in advance. Only free viewing is on TV ;)

I got assigned to #34 Perera. Mostly because they are in the shade of the Toyota bridge. They seem to be all over the place; car smoked A LOT when they first started it up, then it stalled about a dozen times, plus some transmission problems (like they lost a gear). The mechanics don't like to broadcast their problems down pit lane, but i heard one of them saying "well, it ain't gonna fix itself". Heard that Paul Tracy had a temper tantrum after qualifying ended, getting out of the car and throwing his helmet full force on the pavement. He has a two and a half million dollar deal for Champ Car, which ceases to exist in two more days. Don't see why he's upset, he gets paid either way. BTW, This is THE LAST CHAMP CAR RACE AT LONG BEACH. That's a good reason to go to it this weekend. It's interesting that 20 teams showed up, since those cars are going to be collector's items after Sunday. No sanctioning body will have a class for them anymore. BTW, I saw a couple of emo kids running around. WAJ. Robby Gordon's sister Beccy Gordon is in one of the pro/celebrity Celicas, so we all have someone to cheer for. The IMSA guys are WAY impressive; very professional in every little detail. They put on a hell of a show. The car I thought looked best was this grey GT40. If somebody can, PLEASE post a photo of that bad boy. I also am working for the Audi team that entered two V-12 turbo diesels prototype cars. Interesting things happening over there.

I don't come here often but I was at LB shooting on Sunday. I wish I knew you guys were there. My friend Kelly was up on stage with Pennywise singing the Bro song with the lead singer on Sat. night. Sometimes a camera will "get you in". Here are some pix.:p
