RGM has probably left Ronn's name on the Hummer as this way when they go back to court RGM can say we had every intention of having Ronn drive and if he would have shown up the ride was his. RGM had all intentions of fulfilling our obligation to Ronn Bailey. But RGM had to have a plan "B" in case Ronn did not show and that was driver BJ Baldwin. Oh and by the way Ronn's navigator Kevin Heath was there and he rode with our replacement driver.
Makes RGM look really good against Ronn and Vanguard in court.

shaved tires to fit as spare, they actually replaced or test with 35 instead of 37",.

I understand that, they actually were trying different sizes and compounds from Toyo for their last test and hit on something they liked that they had not used before.;)

What if Runn send that Wallace kid to fill in per Runns request? Can he send in a substitute driver?

I do not believe that Runn has any say so on that.....HE has a contract with RGM to drive, not the kid. And RGM owns the H3, not Runn. Runn is in violation of his contract by failing to drive the H3. Being it is RGM's car and he has an obligation to run the car for his sponsor, who happens to be Runn Bailey's Company, RG has a "legal responsibility" to put the best driver available in that car to get Vanguard the most coverage they can, which RG has done. When they do go to court over this, it just goes to show that RGM performed their end of the contract the best they possibly could under the circumstances and did everything that they humanly could to get that car to the front in Runn's abscence. That is my lamens understanding of things anyways.

That being said, wouldn't Runn be in violation of the contract by failing to report for testing/prep/team meetings etc? I think an legitimate argument could be made that Runn has already compromised the obligations of RGM to it's sponsors (Vanguard included), and definitely compromised the safety of the team come race day by failing to show up on schedule. What a WANKER!

I would think you have very valid points, but the more RGM goes out of their way to leave an open seat to him, the more the courts will side in their favor I would think. When all is said and done, RGM will have gone above and beyond in thier attempt to fulfill thier end of the agreement.
And what it will come down to is the word of the contract first and foremost, and then was it fulfilled by both parties. The party who does not fulfill their end of the contract (Runn) will most likely lose I would think. 4.5 million is alot of money to squak over.

Win or not, it isn't the The Dakar, it’s the Central European Rally, one of the races in the "Dakar Series" so you should probably get that straight now before it starts.
I think it would be embarrassing if a Hummmmbuggy didn't win a stage in terrain like that. It’s totally wide open with all the room in the world to over drive and little consequences for going off track.
BJ was airing the Hummmmbuggy out nicely, driving it like Ronn paid for it!!!! I’m thinking think BJ will do well, he’s going to surprise people.

I know the format and logistics of the whole Dakar "series". What I was trying to say is even if he wins we will hear excuses on why he won or should not have. One of them will be he couldn't win the real Dakar only this one. A win is a win. Its like winning a team championship and saying well you only beat them because the other team didn't have there best player!!

That is because the Dakar as we knew it is no more for the forseeable future, and not by the drivers choice either. The Central European Rally bashers should probably get that straight before it starts;)

You are right a win is a win and we already know he couldn't win the "real" Dakar (as you put it) while it was being held. Perhaps some day it will come back and his team will have a shot at it, but until then any discussions as to winning The Dakar will have to wait until that race is held again.
Just because the CER isn’t The Dakar doesn’t mean it isn’t a tough race and who ever win it deserves all the credit that should go with it. I think you Rubby fans should hold off on your fears as to what people might say until after the event. But really, you guys are already used to excuses from NASCAR anyway right?:D :D

I have no idea what you mean by this statement or how it might apply to off-road endurance races. Who is complaining about what?

From the Toyo blog: "As we were leaving, the Mitsubishi team was pulling in their Semi trucks. The guys jumped out of their trucks and pulled cameras out to take pictures of the Hummers."
They had to take pictures, 'cause they were the only views they're going to get of the Hummer the whole race.

This "re-Scheduled" Dakar rally is going to be huge. For the purists, it will be a failure, but the event closer to the population base of central Europe, is going to be a great showcase for RG and the monster Hummers. I have a great feeling he will do well.
