So now that a race has gone by and tons of pictures have been seen, what are everyone's thoughts on the new number sizes.

I like them, provided they are well laid out. There are, in my opinion, only a few that look professionally laid out. Rob Naughton's looks nice, the Traxxas trucks flow well, and Garit's is also nice. Too many of the trucks look like they got all stickered up and said "Oops, we gotta put big #'s on here". I just expected a little more I guess, especially with teams working with talented graphic artists.

I liked it better the way it was. The sponsors pay good money for that spot. Its not like you cant tell by looking at the truck who it is. Not one truck looks like another (In the same class)

I agree!

It is time to step up the image of your race program if you have not already.

It is duly noted that the look & appearance is way down the bottom of the list when getting ready for a race. And compounding that fact is the cost to maintain that image throughout the race weekend. With the rising cost to participate in CORR in addition to fuel among other things it is just not foreseeable for some to figure graphics into the budget.

On average the ProLites are looking at going through 2-3 bodies in a weekend??? Chime in if Im wrong, Im not a ProLite racer or even a short course racer for that matter......

You guys are on stage right now and you have the "mic" to show how legit and exciting this sport is even for the average motorsport fan.

Couple of suggestions to help get your bodies & graphics covered. Most of it common knowledge already

#1 - Botec makes bodies in a variety of basic gel coat colors that pretty muck look ready to go right on the truck. I am also under the impression that they work designs such as two-tone into the panels for custom orders. For example the Conye trucks. With the ProComp colors, dark blue being the base color and the grey stripe through the middle starting at the rear of the front wheel well to the top of the bedside. I believe that is all done with the gel coat. So Try working with Botec to get that job worked out. This eliminates time & money to get multiple bodies painted.

#2 - Vehicle Wraps are huge business right now. Try and work out a sponsorship deal to get your bodies wrapped for a season. There are plenty of print firms & sign shops ready and fighting for your business.

Props to all the teams that get the job done.

Once the first 2 laps are done you cant see the numbers on the doors exept for the leaders.

I am one of the companies (Patricks Signs) that wrap the trucks. I have Herbst & Menzies.....just to name a few. We have Very talented artists.....but when you want to put a number on a door, which is the best real estate for you sponsors name, it screws up the designs that some people pay up to $10,000.00 to have us design. And some of our customers DO NOT want to change the design or decided to race last minute. Pay Close attention to what changes we have made to the Herbst graphics this weekend. Dont bag the designs if you dont know what is involved to have a truck look professional and to have to deal with a lame rule change.

I did not mean to offend you or any other graphic designer with my post. You'll notice that I said "talented graphic artists" in my post. I also did not single any trucks out as not being to my liking, so I really don't understand your being upset here. Being in the bodyshop business and off-road racing for my entire life, I certainly understand the constraints you have to deal with when planning the appearance of your racecar. This post was to get people's opinions about the change after they had a chance to see it in person. Let's just leave it at that.

I may have came off a bit harsh, my point was alot of our clients are trying to fight the rule change and its not working. I was just bummed that all the "graphic" styles we tried to use were ruined by the number covering them up. No big deal....just wanted to keep the numbers small like it used to be. Didn't want the "Nascar" look.

the number rule stinks. most trucks have "extended cabs" now. mandate that all teams put the number there, 16" tall instead of 20.

Baja619 hit the nail on the head, for the first time since the Mickey Thompson days off road racing is about as main stream as it can get. When half the trucks in the field roll out at the first race and look terrible it does not reflect well on the sport of off road racing. I understand that not everyone has big budgets and sponsors but you are never going to get them without looking professional in the first place.
The number rule was announced way in advance of the season starting, everyone had time to be prepared. Expecting the series to change the rules is not realistic, trying to fight it and using that as an excuse as to why your truck does not look good is BS. I mean no one any disrespect but live with the rules and make it work.
I sponsor 5 drivers, title sponsor on 4 of those trucks the number rule effected our logo placement, but we all sat down figured out what would work for everyone involved and what would be legal and went to work. 2 of our drivers do not have not 100% of the appearance that we laid out but that is due to running different bodies for the first few races as the new motors are tested and dialed in. But those 2 truck still look good. A lot of the field has stepped up and made it all work and look good, this needs to happen across the board for our sport to grow. The series had a lot of guidance and input when making the number rule, it is all about TV and exposure so everyone has to live with it.
Off road racing is on the verge of going big time, step up or you may get left behind. And again I mean no disrespect but it is the way it is. At Pomona and this weekend at Primm there is a toy company out there taking images of trucks for a line of toys/die cast cars to be released. Trucks that do not look good and do not meet the number rules are not going to be considered and a lot of those drivers, teams and sponsors are going to be upset when they do not have their truck on sale in Wal Mart and Toys R Us. The same thing happened with the new Baja video game, they took and recieved a lot of images of racers, a lot of those did not make the game because they did not look good. If you have a sponsor do you expect them to use you in their marketing if your truck does not look good? Love it, hate it, it is the way it is.

agree 100%. also i dont know if you guys run into the same problem, but when you start getting a decent amount of sponsers and they all want to be seen on the vehicle, you have less and less room for numbers, graphics and so forth. makes it harder to incorporate big numbers and designs.:D
