cant just go for a day though. has anyone looked into this? whats it cost to get an rv spot in the infield? do they allow you to bring rhinos or golf carts? how far a drive is it from LA?

Ugh, I may have to put this thread on the "Ignore List" as it's killing me that the soonest Sonoma trip will be 2009 for me... So, do me a favor, get the logistics and law-breaking out of the way this year for when the wet-blanket decides to go next year... LOL!

Its a road race GG, no infield.
I went to the Sears Point a few times when I lived up there. Great track but that nascar chute the put in from turn 4-7 was super lame.

May 13th, 2008, 08:08
Well it opened up a large area for passing that was needed. It has made turn 4-7 an exciting place to watch who can brake and who can't. It also has the RG line, you know the one where he is four wheels over the berm, that is now standard procedure for any fast lap. Remember when with RCR when he kept hitting the large Styrofoam block? The carousel view is limited and the bulky stock cars just followed the leader through there. The bikes are exciting to watch through there though.

8 hours give or take from Temecula, depending on how you drive
does anyone know how much of the race you can see by actually being there compared to watching it on tv? I know just being there is something, just wondering how much you miss. it would be worth it to watch rg put it down though.

OK boys and girls let's do it right this year.
I plan on being there Thursday afternoon, my RV spot is a lot closer to the track than last year. Track side terrace row "G" yeah I know last row but It's closer than Cougar or 50 acres. Come on by it's a 32' Funmover with a large KTM mural on the side.
Seats are in of course in turn 2. RG coming right at you.:D
http://www.infineonraceway.com/
RDC party Saturday night? I'll have the Bar-B-que set up.
If you do not have an RV reservation by now you will be in 50 acres across the street. Cougar mountain may have some spots or the overflow.
Johnny law will confiscate any private vehicle that does not have a plate and believe me they will. I can see 80% of the track in turn 2 and big screens are all over as well.
OK now who's going??????

Sounds like you're the man with the plan!! I'd be going if I wasn't 3,000 miles away. How far from Sacramento is Sears Point? I've got family there so I should be able to make it some year before RG retires...

IMO I would rather watch a road race from home on TV. Can see it a lot better. Now as far as a RDC group I say we get one together for California Speedway later this year. When is it in August?? That would be a lot closer for most of us and I think its better for watching......anyone in?

I think it's Labor Day, the race is Sunday night August 31st.
I'm going to try and make this one, I'd really like to make Infeneon one day but with gas prices and the drive from San Diego, even Phoenix is a stretch right now

Sears point has always been great for viewing besides it kind of fun to watch the necks turn right and shift now & then. The Cookie cutter tracks can sometimes become a snooze feast but I might travel south this year. A little relaxation after V2R.
We know So Cal can party but the wine & cheese crowd in No Cal will be at full tilt, come on up and enjoy the fun.
And for the hardcore RG fans we get a chance to watch the #7 be competitive and maybe win. I have the die cast "Charlie's Angles Full Throttle" #31 on my desk.

Part of the Sonoma experiance is to get out of smoggy so cal.

The only bad part of races at Sears Point is the traffic in and out. Only a couple of small roads. Other than that its a great track, almost as good as Laguna Seca

It's a Funmover so we can always make room in the garage section.
Seriously your welcome to whatever extra space I have The over head sleeper is for me and the wife. Leaves 2 other fold out beds one is spoken for Sat night. Just bring your sleeping bag. You will have to put up with 100lb Doberman and a 7lb Yorkie guess which on is the bad a##. Good food, good fun, good racing.
I'd get tickets now especially for turns 2 and 3

If that's cool with you Rex I'll crash outside the mo'home in the grass, maybe you'll let me take a shower though:D?
I'm on a pretty tight budget as an unexpected cost just came up but I'm still really looking forward to this!!

I'll jump in here if it is okay....he is camping behind you in your T2 seats, up on the terrace area behind the track. Easy walk back to that area. I'm over in cougar mtn, that requires a short shuttle ride. Once you are in the track, you are in the race. You will not need to show tickets to get through a gate, but Sat and Sun you will need to show ticket to get to seats. Bring your coolers with beverages noproblemo for where you are sitting. You can't take anything into grandstand area. I usually walk entire track on friday during all practices etc and hit up the driver trailers that are lined around the grandstand areas and from T7 to T9, and inside the track near T11. Then I sit in grandstands for qualifying even though I don't have tickets for there. NEVER been a problem, good view of big screens, and pa systems. Saturday a little less walking and more time in T2 for practice and companion race. Sunday right to seat and stay till over.
Fri and Sat are a good time to scout other seating locations for trips to later races. I really like between T7-T9, good views of fast section of track and views back to T2-T4. I just don't like staring into the sun all day, I'd rather have my back to it in T2. T7 is also a great seat sun is brutal there also. Any more questions????
Always fun to watch practice. RG will go out late, due to where he is in points and how quick he gets through tech. He will go right to top, and pull off. He'll get bumped down as others get up to speed. Then right when you are getting pissed about him not being out there he goes out and back on top. What will piss you off is during practice everyone will be checking fuel mileage by running it out of fuel, and it never fails RG will be on a blistering lap and yellow will come out because some one stopped on the track somewhere. They run it out because they want to see how fuel pickup is working turning right and left instead of just coming in and seeing how much is left.

June 10th, 2008, 16:29
AWESOME! thanks, so just to make sure my slow ass has it right, We can bring our cooler and items into the gates of the track and to the RV... just not into the actual grandstand seating area, correct?
Long way from where I'll have to park?
What Hotels are close to the track (probably sold out by now) ?
Are there lots of Cougars over on Cougar MTN?? Definately gonna have to roll thru there! HAHA
Man, I'm getting pumped... should I bring ear protection or is it quieter than cali speedway?
Lastly...
Fish, DW, I have a paypal acct set up.. do you want to transfer the $$ to me and I'll buy the tix? $199 for all three days with pit access.
My buddy wants to get a room somewhere so he can shower.
LETS DO THIS!

hey there mike. have you looked in to how much it might cost to fly to whatever airport is best. san fran or oakland. rent a car or even a small rv and cruise to the race from there? i'd love to go but i'd have to fly cause i have to be back in s.d. a bit earlier than if i drove up. apologies in advance if this question has been addressed. thanks.
michael_loomis
June 10th, 2008, 17:37
Its about $200 to fly round trip, plus about $50 a day for a decent car. I dont think there are any RV spots open this close to the race, so I think that shoots down the RV possibilty.
Its 8 hours to Oakland, not sure how much further the track is, guessing within a couple hours. You could always get a one way ticket back home, and I'll drop you off at the airport. Heck get it round trip and I'll pick you up too! haha

I was just up there 3 weeks ago, very easy to get to. Yeah, flights are in the $200 range round trip, $404 if you wait til the last minute (US Airways). There is a lake up by there (forget the name) If you guys are hard up on funds, you can always tent it at the lake before and after the race and get a rental car for $40 a day. All you need is a change of clothes, beer and sleeping bags:D I will be in Mexico City for work, so have a fricken blast. The cookie cutter inn's are usually in the $180-240 per night. That is out of the immediate area of course

Even if sold out, a ton of seats come race time Sunday in T2, nobody sitting in them, I think a lot of them sit in the corporate tents that line this area, and others use Sunday to walk around.

The RDC gang should have a great time this afternoon looks like it cooled of about 10 degrees, i thought about heading back up but betwwen traffic and all the other drama this weekend the TV looks real good for this afternoon.
family comes first. dogs are family for sure. good call. there's always more races. what's her name?

Wow.. what an awesome time! Kurt Busch Jinxed Robby! haha
Rex, I'm so glad to hear everything worked out with Riley.. Thank you so much for your hospitality, you guys are amazing! really went above and beyond to make sure we were set after you understandably had to leave. great great people.
Just like Baja, soooo many stories to tell! incredible weekend, sucks for the RGM guys.
I think Donny befriended EVERYONE on the RV terrace! My buddy Johns R/C wing pulling a space shuttle "Challenger" at about 180mph. Meeting really cool people. Talking to RG's crew guys about baja (can you believe one of his guys and remove 5 lugs in 8/10s of a second! The slow guy is 1.1!!) . Cant wait for next year!

Extended thanks goes out to everyone who helped make this trip happen for me. Starting with Loomis, helped out as well by Rex, and almost everyone in the local RV section!!!!
What an awesome trip, I know that it is one I shall not soon forget. Very happy to hear that Riley (the high-diving yorkie) will be OK for a little while longer. Rex, my offer about the cooler still stands, and thank you again for setting me up with all the goodies before you took off.
Pictures are being put on my photobucket and will be posted within an hour or so.

This is the dog that sent us home early. Never thought I would like a toy pup.
Needless to say Riley is doing great after a real close call.
