what did they talk about 97ds? anything interesting? like dezert racing? prolly not cause speed does'nt show much of it. you know, i'd rather see ole' robby kiss off nascar, and the open wheel stuff and dedicate the rest of his career racin' score, full time corr, and endurance rally events. just the international exposure and big time paydays available for dakar winners would keep him in the chips. world rally guys make the really large dollars don't they? he outta go for that too. i don't think any american drivers have ever been involved in world rally to any large degree have they? i just think he's pissin in the wind with structured roundy-round racing and truth be told, he's not as good at it as some of the other guys that have cut their teeth on that kind of stuff. his real talents are for off road events where he has few peers. i'd rather see him beat sainz, sousa, de villiers, and alphand than couzin carl, kyle , juan pablo, and somebody named david reagan. no offense david. just my take on it.

I understand what you are saying, but to say that RG is not that good in Cup talent wise is not accurate. When in competetive equipment, RG is every bit as good as any of them, it has so been proven. Unfotrunately, in Nascar, more so then in any other form of racing, driver talent is not less important, but if you do not have a properly set up car, all of the talent in the world will not get you a top 20 in Nascar. That is an unfortunate fact. Where as in off road racing, even the IRL/Open Wheel series, driver talent alone is worth some finishing positions;)
Truth be told, RG's failures in Cup are of his own making, he made ownership a priority over his driving and winning a championship. If he was with a competetive team, he would be in the chase. Hell, he finished 16th and was as high as 9th in the points just 5 years ago when RCR was down and a second tier team at best. ;)

sure rgfan. but part of the overall nascar picture regarding success has to include the decisions you have to make on the track and i 'm not sure robby has made the right choices alot of times. his car control is superb. his judgement ? not so much. i'm not baggin' on him. i'd just like to see the guy do what he's REALLY good at full time. and that's off highway racing. i'm just a little tired of tuning in to nascar races and seeing the guy solidly locked in in 30th , two or three laps down with the only shot at finishing well is if part of the field crashes and, due to his superb car control he manages to salvage a top 20. and we call that a great finish for a single car effort. in reality, it sucks and at this point, it's very nearly predictable. you can admire the guy for being head strong and detemined, but that does'nt necessarily equate to top five finishes week in and week out. again, just an opinion from a casual observer. gas on.

Nope, never made it to 8th. Jr finished 9th behind Robby but he had led a lap so he had 143 points vs Robby's 142. Only lasted for a few days too...
Looks like 9th is as high as Robby can go.

I think I remember seeing that too...
So what exactly does Robby have to do to get into the All Star race or is he out? (besides getting voted in)
EDIT: nevermind
This year, 21 drivers already have their spots secured on the starting grid, with three more slots to be filled from the Showdown and a driver voted in by the fans

Fans' Vote remains tight entering home stretch
All-Star voting concludes at 7 p.m. ET Saturday

04:12 PM EDT
The field for the Sprint All-Star Race is set. Almost.
Unique to NASCAR, the all-star lineup has three spots remaining to be filled -- and on-track competition -- the winner and runner-up of the Showdown -- will take care of two of the openings.
The third will be determined by fans' voting, on Sprint and Nextel handheld devices or at Sprint stores, as well as voting on NASCAR.COM.
This is the fifth year in which a driver will be voted-in to the field. Ken Schrader won the inaugural Fans' Vote, in 2004. Other fan-vote winners include Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Petty and Kenny Wallace.
This year, more than 251,650 votes have been cast to date. Among the top vote-getters are Robby Gordon, Kasey Kahne, Elliott Sadler, Wallace and Michael Waltrip.
Voting ends at 7 p.m. ET Saturday

We all know the vote is rigged behind the scenes...NO WAY is NASCAR going to let one of its biggest sponsors and biggest products (Budweiser) not get its car into the race...

Bud is no longer the go to for NASCAR anymore... Remember it is Coors now for the pole awards and the shootout and I think Coors is also the official beer of all of the NASCAR owned tracks...
They might leave the Bud in the cooler and pull out a Jim Beam instead!!!! Maybe that was really what the $150K was for!!!:D:confused::D:confused:

Robby should be able to race his way in with that field. His car has some speed, there shouldnt be any excuses.
Let the wannabe drivers (Waltrip, Wallace) battle it out for fan votes.

Im really impressed with the RGM turn around since Walter Giles was hired. Things look up, hopefully they get completely geled in time for Sonoma...

Did anyone read RobbyGordon.com's run down of the race?
"The No.7 Jim Beam Dodge started off the Sprint Showdown in the 5th position, and made a run for his money after the drop of the green flag. Gordon was on his way to pass the leader when a fellow competitor spun. After the caution, NASCAR wrongly ruled that Gordon was in fourth position, when in fact he should have been in second.
When they were back to green flag racing, Gordon realized that his car was overheating. The television cameras zoomed in on the front of the No. 7, and a large piece of plastic was found to be on the grill. This was preventing any airflow and causing the water temperature to soar. Six laps later, on the one allotted pit stop of the night, the Jim Beam Dodge pulled behind the pit wall where the crew added water to cool down the engine. The pit stop was a success and Gordon was back on the track, but with not enough time to gain his top-five position back. He was able to maneuver his way through the top-fifteen, and finished 11th place.
“We had a really great car tonight, and I think if NASCAR had put us in second position where we were supposed to be then we would not have gotten that tear-off stuck to our grill,” Gordon stated. “The guys did a great job putting the water back in the car, and I was able to successfully finish off the race. We really just need to get rid of this bad luck. On the bright side, we worked with our primary car for the 600 tonight, and we compiled some great information for next weekend’s race. We will spend this week just tweaking the car and getting caught up, returning for the 600 well prepared to compete. “"
They worked with their primary car for the 600? If thats true that was a giant risk. Almost everyone was running their backups for next week, at least in the Open race. Kind of odd...

WHile it was risky, they know they are in serious trouble points wise. Sounds to me like they were able to get some solid info for their 600 car in race like conditions as a result.

Remember with these CoT cars they are supposed to be able to transfer anything from one car to the next so maybe it wasn't that big of a risk... Anyway I hope it paid off, he seemed good in the open and hopefully he'll run good next weekend in the 600!!!:D
