Mid 80's. I listen to KSON. It's not like what it use to be. The singers make a few good songs make some quick money then there out. I do like Alan Jackson.

I agree, I have been totally ignoring country music recently.
I think it's a Tim McGraw line...
"i'm readin street slang for dummies, cause they put pop in my country..."

But it sells. Look at Taylor Swift...she's hot. Look at Carrie Underwood, she's hot. Pop culture, unfortunately enough, drives what is "cool" in all aspects of sales.

Disagree? Take a cool at any "emo" kid. They look like little half-dead, half-female, 100% morons to me, but the crap sells....

I like today's country, I didn't like it when it had to much twang.

(but maybe that's your point)

chris ledoux is gone. moe bandy. waylon. haggard, little johnny paycheck, cash, kris, nelson, tompall glasier, buck owens, jerry jeff walker do seem a bit more macho than the present group of artists to me with keith, jackson and maybe one or two more being the exception. dwight yokum is real hard not to like imho. so is james mcmurtry. interesting topic. keith urban looks like a wuss but he sure can play. i don't get kenny chesney at all. i think he's just playing off buffett a bit too much but without the experiences and talent.

is there a connection with country artists wearing a bunch of clothes with seequins and glitter being manly? i don't know bout that. alan jackson will sport fancy jackets covered with that stuff but he's also got his worn out wranglers on a the same time. very few of the old guard artists considered wore that stuff .

NOT TRUE ! !!

The tailor to the stars "back Then" was Nudie Rodeo Taylors of Hollywood.(http://www.nudiesrodeotailor.com)
Hank, Marty Robbins, George Jones, Little Jimmy Dickens, and Conway Twitty wore his stuff, just to name a few.....

Trace Adkins...How can you go wrong with a song like "Chrome"?

i think, after thinking about it, that there's something about raisin' hell, getting arrested, gettin drunk and stoned, not paying to much attention to the rules that seperate todays artists with some of the old guys. good god, george [no show] jones. now that guy could party now! jerry jeff gettin' drunk and throwin' his tv into a swimming pool off the fourth floor of his hotel room. willie running back into his burning home to save a couple of lbs. of columbian instead of his awards and momentos. haggard, cash, david allan coe, doing time. maybe that's the difference. i cant see todays artists raising that degree of hell nowadays.

There is still a lot of good stuff, you just have to listen to something other then mainstream radio. Some of the lesser known people on the satellite radio, X-Country on XM, are pretty good.

Laurie- Does this mean you're not a big fan of The Twangbangers?

I like a lot of classic country from Cash, to Ernest Tubbs but, "new Country" is a real phenomena and is growing more popular than any other genre today. So much of it sounds like a cross in of classic rock and Buffett. I love it.

funny this thread came about, my friend and i had a similiar conversation. We called it the age of "average" country music. It seems like everything that comes out is similiar and average, nothing is great.

and i personally feel like women have taken over the music. if you look in this thread it seems there is partial proof of that...They get what they want, aka rascall flatts and their popularity (possibly the worst band on the face of the earth).

I have wondered that very thing myself...about those flat rascals. Girls are always crazy about them, yet only one of them is somewhat good looking. They have some decent songs, but none of their songs were written by them. Now I'm not gay, but I can tell you what a good looking guy is. Brad Paisley is better looking than that whole band put together, he's a guitar virtuoso, and his songs have real substance and lots of humor.

Jenn, Britt, Laurie, maybe you can explain this one to me??

Sorry to have left you out MKay...you hadn't posted in here so I wasn't sure you'd be keeping up with the thread.

You trying to tell me that the lead singer of Rascal flatts is good looking?? Dude, if that guy is even semi-good looking, I am like Derrick Zoolander.

Really, really, really good looking:p

One of my personal favorite country artists also happens to be one of the best looking men alive...Gary Allan. Girls, if you don't know who I'm talking about, watch this video:

i gotta say that Cowboy Troy is one of the best country singers here. J/K. why does he label himself as country? or as a singer? Anyway i like aloit of the old music, but i also like the new stuff. I dont like Talor swift at all, she can go with cowboy trow to a different genre. but i like most others. my favorite songs are the ones about cars or about our troops at war.

You know what you get when you play a country album backwards?

You get your truck back, your girl back, your dog back....

OK so that should have gone in the joke thread

For men a woman has to be good looking to find them attractive. Women can find a average looking man attractive because of how he talks, acts, walks etc. It's more about their Karisma, and we love to be sweet talked to and that's what a lot of today's country is. We don't care who wrote the song. Does that make sense?

My husband recently found out I wake up a lot nicer to him singing "Good morning beautiful" then when he would tell me it's time to wake up.

There is a ton of new country out there that is awesome, but you won't hear it on the radio. I can't flip to any country station without hearing carrey overrated or whatever her name is. The lyrics are terrible in this new pop country, talking about guys cheating and tearing up his truck, gross.

Anyone like Reckless Kelly?
