When prerunning, do you run at normal tire pressure or do you air down a little bit to compensate for heat expansion? I know that for dunes you air down a lot.

its depends on the tire you're using and what type of terrain you're
crossing

yep. but Ive found in hard pack, you want 30-35psi. Better cornering, no worrying about blowing beads, much less likely to get a flat etc etc.

heat expansion does'nt make any noticeable difference in my experience.

Traditionally you air down at the dunes because you tires will leave a bigger footprint giving you greater traction and the ability to float on the sand and adapt to the uneven surfaces. You are less likely to sink in the sand. Picture walking in snow shoes on sand vs. walking on stilts...

On dirt and at speeds you are gonna wanna consider blowing a bead. Check the tire section in the shop part of this site. this has been discussed.

We run 33" BFG's on our 12 car.... we set our tires at 28 psi.... but considering your pre-runner prolly weighs alot more than our car :D

18-20 for soft stuff like washes and 27-30 for that rocky stuff. Now if your going to do dunes that is another story 10-12 pounds, if your going to cruise.
