I need your help, QUICK!

My fellow RDCers, I may have an opportunity to go to Mexico for the Baja 500 next weekend. I am not in posession of a passport however, and am curious if I will be stuck down there if I go.

I know that the majority of you have crossed the border several times ( I have not in many years, and policies may have changed) so I need someone to tell me what I need to carry for positive ID. I obviously cannot aquire a passport before next weekend...
I was under the impression that a state issued ID, along with a photocopy of my birth certificate might be adequate (not too crazy about that, but....)

It's a little easier by car if you have a passport. But Photo ID and Birth Certificate are still ok at this point. If you're flying you must have a passport. So don't need to be helicopter'de out. I heard rumors that the fine is around $20,000.

If you are going to be in a race truck you need a copy of passport to get a wrist band. Actual I think it said drivers license was ok.

Your DL and Original birth certificate will do just fine......You can use a photo copy buy sometimes they give you a hard time about it...

Dont sweat it Sub, your dl & copy of your birth cert. Thats it period!!

Have fun down there. Secure your stuff like it's in a parking lot at LAX and if you have to park in town leave someone with your rig or behind a locked gate or, Hotel courtyard. Double disable your ignition or fuel system and have a loud intrusion alarm for overnight parking.

BTW, none of this is new practice, just good prudence in a locale you do not have experience in.

You can get a passport at a US post office. For in a hurry here is some info.

DL and Birth Cert. are fine but if you get hurt and need to be airlifted back to the US the plane/helicopter will have to land before crossing the border and drive across from there costing you more time to get US Medical attention. Be safe!

DW.. If your worried about the copy, just get one notarized. I went to mex in april and its not a big deal yet. only had my ID.

A couple of months ago a ADV Rider came back across the border without his license plate, ID and passport. They had all been lost somewhere in Mex. They just let him through.

So a notarized copy of my birth certificate, along with my state issued ID.... is my best bet according to what ya'll say???

I have a friend who is a public notary, so I think I'll give him a call in the manana! (gotta brush up on mi Espanol antes de vaya a Mexico!)
