ASO Rally race in Australia???

I am curious as to why the ASO has not considered Australia as a possible venue to replace the Dakar???

Maybe they have, but I am still curious. I think it would be a great place to do it.

How true! And big roos were a problem at this years Australasia Safari. Shane Diener got taken out at 150km/h and broke his leg and quad racer from South Africa, Vicus Vanderventer also had a roo knock him off his quad and broke his knee! :eek:Those bloody big rabbits!

I think Dakar in Australia would be great. The NSW government have finaly woken up and let Quads get permits for the Condo 750 so I think most states can now get permits for quads.
Even if it is run in just WA and NT you could easy get a 10,000km race together.

Grab a map a ruler and a pen and draw a line between Perth and Cairns! That would be one hell of a race. I dont know why they dont run a real big race like that down here, we have the room, we have the terrain so lets do it. The Australasian Safari is currently I believe too disorganised and has a few issues, starting with the big $$$ entry fee!

A race from Perth to Cairns would be great but I think the hassle of getting one states rules and regs (police, councils, state gov etc) sorted with permits etc is hard enough without getting two other states involved.

I was at the Australasian Safari this year and thought it was very well organised. It was nice and technical yet seemed to flow well. The entry fee was big but all things in perspective, if we were racing Dakar the entry is about 7x that for perhaps double the distance.
