That's right, the Millitary has a new contract to replace them with smart and Prius Hybrids. Rod Hall will look cute in one.

Click the link... Rick Wagoneer (sp) announced the closure of 4 north American GM truck and SUV plants (2 in US, 1 in Canada and 1 in Mexico). At the same time he intimated that Hummer could be killed, sold off or revamped in reaction to the current economy and high fuel prices!

This wont be the last to fall to high energy crisis. You just might have to walk from LA to Cancun or wherever for your next vacation.

We were supposed to go to Hawaii at the end of the summer and we still might but we will probably be going in a row boat now.:(

If they can make a tahoe hybrid cant the do it to a H2?

It seems weird that they would kill it off after pumping so much money into Robby's off road stuff.

it does seem very strange that gm would back robby gordon and the hall's to the extent that it does and pull the hummer line out. but we all know how rg's luck runs alot of the time. maybe they [gm] will wait for imput from the public to make a final call. there are lots of h-3's, h-2's out there. they also have alot of r and d on the next generation down-sized h-4. the h-1 alpha was the last of the original line and it's been history for a while now. think i'll hold on to my h-1 and h-3 for awhile. might see em' on barrett-jackson down the road. bummer.

i sort of take exception to this comment. the h-3 is a more capable overall 4x4 than the h-1. the h-1, while having no peers in the desert, is'nt good for tight mountain trails cause it's too wide. it's also very hard to work on because of how heavy it is and requires an extreme maintenence schedule typical of most military machinery. parts are very spendy and some are getting hard to come by. the h-3 is alot of fun and much easier to deal with. i've only had one issue with the h-3 and it was'nt the cars fault. i can't speak to the h-2 . i personally think they're ugly as a toad. it would'nt bother me if they dropped the h-2 completely and kept the h-3 and h-4 programs going. only time will tell.

My father speaks on and off about getting an old military hummer. Not for driving around town but more as a keepsake/collection piece he can play with from time to time. Nothing ever pans out though. Anyone know of any good sources? When something is going to become a collector car he tends to open up the wallet and I would love to see a big old tank like that parked between his '67 Cornet Hemi and his '59 Vette.

I test drove a H3, couldn't see anything out of the windows, so I didn't really care for them personally. Also, you can't get an H3 with a turret!

here we go with the H2 haters club again.
they technically could make a hybrid H2.. as they are SIMILAR. ALOT heavier though, and the aero dynamics would kill it.
the 4.5L Duramax will probably make or break Hummers entire lineup. As a dealer, H1 prices have pretty much stabilized, H2 dropped like a rock, got an 07 with 5k I'll sell someone cheap! :)
tahoe and H2 suspension package is quite different. HD 6.0L (6.2L for 08 w/ 6 speed trans) frame, in the twinky

If the 'rats get a triad of power in Washington, new and immediate carbon tax and fuel taxes will be in our laps. With that, I suspect cars like the Camaro with the big LS3 and event the new CTS-V with the tuned down blue-devil motor will not see the light of day.

in what desert or offroad environment did you test drive the h3? did you try sitting on a pillow? turrets were never offered in the h1 as an option. try flash off road.com for used humvee and h1 sales or links. also try the dupont registry.

I went to one of the GM test drive things they had out here in San Diego. Never took one off road, I am sure it goes good. I can't say I would need a pillow, I just think the narrow windows and inner trim take up most of the view to the outside world (personal opinion).

i was just teasin'. i'm 6ft 2 and i thought the same thing. but got used to it fairly quick. the real issue was the rear view mirror in the middle of the windshield. i turned mine upside down to see better. i can understand your point and respect your opinion.

In 2005 General Motors lost $10.6 BILLION dollars. In 2006 they had a "good" year and only lost $2 BILLION dollars. Then in 2007 they lost almost $40 billion. So in the last three years GM has lost over $50 BILLION dollars. How a company can lose $50 BILLION in 3 years and still remain open at all is amazing to me. GM has teams of stuffy number crunchers blankly staring at numbers all day. It must pencil out that getting rid of the Hummer line is in their best interest.

YES! The vehicle I think GM should be building is a Turbo Diesel hybrid with the new 4.5-liter Duramax for Tahoes, Yukons, Suburbans, Yukon XLs, H2s and even the H3!!! I think the H3 would be up around 30-35 MPG with that combo and still have power to tow or off-road!!!:D

i know. but they list them sometimes. flash offroad.com or even the la times classifieds would be an option. was'nt dan200's question about where to go look for sources for humvee's? hemmings perhaps? what about government auctions?

Remember guys, GM is only considering options for Hummer right now, they have not announced closing or anything else drastic... YET!
Personally, I highly doubt that the Hummer brand will be shut down the way Oldsmobile was. I think the production of the H2 will be slowed way down and the price will be driven upwards. I think the H3 line will expand with an SUT version and some more engine configurations for better fuel economy. Then a Jeep sized H4 will be cheaper and the most popular Hummer ever!
I also think it is possible that the Hummer brand may be sold to an outside party or even to Hummer itself and it could become a stand alone brand or a brand within another group. BMW could buy it and pretty easily make it an all diesel line-up with the 4.5-liter Duramax (purchased from GM) as the flagship engine and the smaller BMW diesels powering the other varriants...
Just my 2 cents...

As I said that is one of the "considerations" for them... They are "considering" closing it down, selling it or revamping the line...
I think it will be revamping the line... After all what will all the ball players and rappers drive if the H2 were discontinued!!!:D

Its all evolution. If Darwin has shown me anything, its "bigger and better." They started with the Escalade, then moved on the the H2. As long as the fact stands, then they will be moving onto the Kodiak/TopKick. Doesn't that sound right?

Side note: I drove both Randys Hummers. I'd take the H3 anyday.
The H1 is a monster in it's own right, but EVERYONE looks at you, it's noisy, uncomfortable, and just downright impractical for everyday use. But still, it's an H1.
The H3 was a welcome breath of fresh air after being in the H1, and while I never pushed the limits of the H3 off road, I assure you it is as Randy says, "more capable overall" than the H1.
My opinion is that they should run with the H3 program (while spicing it up and keeping it somewhat affordable) and persue the "cute-ute" H4 idea. Sorry to say it, but the current trend has made my own suburban ugly to even me.

When they (big company's) announce something like this, they are usually looking for a potential buyer. I would assume it would be cheaper to sell it then just close it down. With GM closing 4 truck a suv plants,I would assume that all the other manufactures aren't far behind them.

There already doing the Kodiak. I had a black one here. There was a lil wayne video posted here awhile back that showed him in a stretched out kodiak limo I believe.
