Which one of the nimrod announcers made the comment about "RG racing a thousand miles in baja or something like that" You'd think they'd at least give him the respect of knowing where where and when he races. If Stewart or Busch or someother pretty boy had raced in Baja they would be all over it.

RGFan
June 4th, 2008, 18:38
I just pm'd RG about having the powers that be look into doing a charity CORR event, having the same guys at this race do it as well. With Wally being tight with Kyle and now doing CORR announcing, I think they would be in.

Tony Stewart. Robby got beat by the guy who owns the track, grew up racing on dirt, and was running a develoment chassis for one of the leading builders, Rocket. I dont think we could have hoped for anything more tonight. I just got back from my buddys place, I dont have a cable box hence no ability to order pay-per-view.

11 Pages? Man this place is going to blow up if RG can ever run up front for a Cup race again, haha.

Seriously though, he looked pretty good. His inexperience showed when he was unable to really hang the car out like some of the other dirt guys, but a great job overall. Plus Scott Bloomquist got his car back in one piece!

Not really, I think Tony could have pulled away if needed. He was being cautious after he almost put it in the turn one wall, and he took his time getting past the lapped car. Still, a great effort for RG.

Nobody was driving that track like Tony was, including the vets like Edwards and Boyer, etc. RG drove the line that worked the best for his car.....High in one and two and low in three and four. He had that thing hung out quite a bit tonight. Robby was pulling Tony in at the end.

TS obviously thinks highly of RG..

Stewart applauded Gordon’s effort.

“I told him for years I thought he would be great in a dirt car,” Stewart said. “I think he’s one of the most naturally talented drivers that races every week in the Sprint Cup series. I’m proud of it (Gordon’s performance) because it makes me look like a genius.”

so with stewart's possible plan to start a race team next year, anyone think there is a slight, very slight chance of him doing some sort of association with RGM?

I know stewart has spoken highly of RG's talent in the past, and a second car already in the top 35 would certainly help his chances at being a successful owner

not a chance in the world, but it would combine my favorite two drivers. so i would support it if it did happen. actually it would probably make me the happiest kid around.

Ill keep this brief, Im sure you get a lot of email...

If Jimmy Johnson was the fresh face that did a respectable job finishing 8th, then what was Robby Gordon; considering it was his first time on dirt (oval racing, not off road which Johnson also did before ASA and Nascar) and he won his heat and finished 2nd in the main?

Just curious...

Caught a moment of BUBBA The Love Sponge on SIRUS a few moments ago and he was talking about the race. Ripped hard on JR for not showing, made a comment that you had to be a real shoe to drive 800HP on the dirt and then went on to say that RG both surprised and impressed him and that he was real talent unlike JR who he called a hack. I think he was trying to get under the skin of a caller with the hack comment.

Never really cared for his show I guess he races late models in Florida. Strange dude.

Nice article!

Here it is if you are too lazy to click the link;)

There are certain recurring themes running throughout NASCAR conversations, be the reaction affirmation or denouncement of said talking points. The CORN can is evil personified. Toyota is ruining NASCAR. Kyle Busch is the Antichrist. And oh yes -- Robby Gordon is a menace to society, or at least the stock car racing portion thereof.

Uh-huh.

While I didn't have the opportunity to watch last night's Prelude to the Dream extravaganza from Eldora Speedway -- the curse of living on the left coast and having said event start while I was still in my cubicle prison -- I did note the results. As commented on earlier (much earlier) this morning, Tony Stewart proved himself to be a most ungracious host by flexing his hometown advantage and winning the main event. Did you notice who finished second? Here's a hint:
Robby_gordon_eldora_2_medium

Robby Gordon.

In his first-ever dirt track race.

On those occasions when new car designs and/or foreign car manufacturers and/or the 2004 NEXTEL Cup champion's younger brother aren't Topic A, the argument as to who is NASCAR's best overall driver makes random appearances. Once the "if it ain't rubbin' it ain't racin'" creatures from the Neanderthal lagoon leave the room at the mention of this, given a definition of best overall as most accomplished in the greatest number of series i.e. different kinds of cars / tracks / conditions, certain names pop up: Stewart, Jeff Gordon. A case can be made for Juan Pablo Montoya, with wins in both Indy cars and F1. Certainly all are worthy candidates for the title. However, when it comes to both number of résumé entries and accomplishments in each, no one in NASCAR can touch Robby Gordon. A winner in off-road racing, and on top of this champion of the Baja 1000, one of the most brutal races of this or any other format imaginable. Winner in Indy cars. Winner in NASCAR at both road courses and ovals. Not unimpressive.

"But look at his overall record in NASCAR," comes the cry. "He couldn't get it done when he was with Richard Childress." While he was with RCR (latter part of 2001 through 2004), he won three races. Total number of wins by all other RCR drivers during that time? Two. Kevin Harvick won twice in 2001, but both were in races before Gordon joined the organization. He won one race in 2002 and again in 2003. While Gordon was with RCR he was the winningest driver in an organization that wasn't winning much of anything. Now, what was that argument again? As to the current state of affairs, the fact that Gordon is able to show up at all, let alone race well enough to be safely in the Top 35, with a one-car team albeit this year supplemented by Gillett Evernham Motorsports which aside from Kasey Kahne's all-star race win has shown little is ample testimony as to his skill.

Does Gordon rub people the wrong way? Absolutely. His penchant for straight talk and aggressive driving has that effect on people. Go figure. He is one of the least PC drivers in an increasingly homogenized, nearly faceless sport with identical cars driven by identical drivers. One would think people would appreciate such, but alas is not to be. Ah well.

No, second place last night was anything but the first loser. Whether people like it or him, Robby Gordon is the real deal. 'Nuff said.

Dork's comments about RG at Eldora.........."Robby has big shoes to fill with a little foot" in asking how RG would do in a Bloomquist car. COming from Mr. Wall spanker himself.

Kyle Busch? Please say it was him! That ass-hat commented that Scott Speed has a rude awakening if he thinks he can compete in the upper divisions of Nascar. Hey Kyle, he actually drove F1 cars, not just tested them because the marketing guys at Toyota thought it would be good press...

Awesome video, it's great to see the drivers being candid. It's rare that the drivers stray from "nascar speak". JJ's story of Robby's helmet was hilarious!

Newman.. "Robby's here? uh oh.. " " nahhh I'm just kidding.. "

funny guy from one of the biggest names to use "Rubby" lol

good job BC to clear up that you asked Kyle to give RG a hard time. When you see other star drivers rubbing elbows, having a good time, it makes me like them more.
