And I'm not sure this belongs in the "pavement" section either...last time I checked, rally racing wasn't done on asphalt...

Frenchy (Loeb) wins and doesn't wreck too often. I guess one mans "edge" is another mans comfort zone.

Aloha

So what you are saying is Travis does not have the talent to pilot the WRX vehicles prepared by Subaru Motorsports partner, Vermont SportsCar.

He has already one several titles and is constant threat for podium positions. If you deny his driving talent then you are most likely ignorant and jealous.

I would say Loeb is in another solar system than Pastrona. Its one thing to have no fear, but with out overflowing talent will never be a world class driver. Loeb has the talent and speed to be world class. Pastrona does not rate when compaired to the top WRC drivers, he would not even be considerd a road sweeper. For one thing, WRC cars are faster by a long shot than what Pastrona drives. no ignorince or jealousy here, just stating the way it is. You could never yous Loeb and Pastrana in the same sentence when it comes to driving and car control, there is nothing to compair exept a world class winner and world champion to sombody who got their drive jumping motor cycles and is a threat in SCCA in the best car there. Sorry, nothing to compair when WRC and SCCA are concerned or the drivers. He looks like a great guy, but come on. If he was trully great, he would have been usherd to the WRC a long time ago because a WRC win and championship means 1000s of times more than a SCCA win anyday. He is trully lucky to do what he does, and yes, I am enveus, because the top WRC drivers earned their drives by driving and winning rallys, not jumping motos and being cool so I trully expect to see this kind of thing from him.

WRC for the most part is run on dirt or snow, they have a few rallys run on pavment but for the most part it is dirt. Monte carlo, Germany, corsica are 3 rallys off the top of my head than runs all pavment, there mite be 1 or so more, but the rest are dirt. Maybe if I play my kids games I could name the other. I have read they use a completly different car from pav to dirt.

Those are the major asphalt rally races but a lot of others have asphalt elements sort of like Baja, you might run 30 miles on asphalt in a race that is considered a gravel rally.
Yes they use completely different cars for asphalt, snow and dirt at least the big teams do, the guys with factory backing. That is in Europe, in the States rally is really struggling, for a while, 2000, 2001 rally was gaining some ground, more and more companies were getting involved and the SCCA was doing it right, getting lots of media out to events, putting on good shows. Then the SCCA stopped doing their rally races, it went to NASA and Rally America which are both good groups but fall way short compared to the SCCA.

They actually had a rally in Africa a few years ago. It was pretty dangerous when you have elephants crossing the course.

Travis is an extremely gifted and talented guy but Loeb is beyond description. I watched him crash once and they showed the replay several times. It looked like he just drove right into a tree. When they interviewed him he said it was driver error. Apparently he missed his braking point by a foot. There was no way to recover. Remember they are driving from the navigators notes and have not seen the stage unless it was used before.

The WRC allows the drivers and co-drivers to do slow speed reconnaissance laps of the up-coming sections. This is where they develop their course notes. The first time they drive the course at speed is on race day.
