First off, someone on Robot Uprising is reporting Menards will sponsor RGM for 5 races this year.

Second, what about that guy commenting Monster will be sponsoring the team at Infineon? Any truth to this?

Just curious, after all this weekend is one of two chances RGM has for a win this year...

Robby said on Trackside at Poke... something about not having sponsorship at some races and running a black car at Sonoma, and how great it would be so see a bad ass looking black car win Sonoma.

not word for word, but similar. I dont think he ever actually made it clear the car would blank black or Monster black. hmmm..

If Monster runs, I think it will be a one race deal.....They have had 3 plus years and and have sponsored 1 out of 120 possible races for RGM.

I think RGM is in some deep trouble.......Unless they have something cooking as far as a business manager and a serious infusion of dollars.....They are falling like a brick in the standings.

Like you said - the whole owner/driver thing has been a disaster.

Will Menard bail him out again?

I hate to say this, but I really hope not. I want this to be over with so he will either sell the rights and his driver services to a team, or will go and drive for somebody else all together.

My thoughts, take them for what they are worth...

If the RGM deal goes bust in Nascar, I see him going back to open wheel. Just my opinion, not saying Ill be right.

Would not surprise me

WHile I would love to see that, RG has stated he got out of the IRL because of safety issues. He only has a couple of competetive years left in the IRL, not many competetive 40 year olds in the sport. Personally, I think he should keep the Nascar operation open, run a Busch and Truck team, albeit tough financially, Run an ALMS team, get a pair of prototypes and run the entire Score season and do the Marathon Rally thing full time.......In a perfect world of course.

I'm with you. I've totally given up on this owner/driver thing. He should merge the 7 car with GEM or any other respectable team that will take him.

Maybe placing 2nd at the Busch and Cup races at the Glen in 2005 was the turning point of RGM. If he would have won both races he probably could have got the attention of some bigger sponsors and RGM could have taken off...

i would sponsor robby for at least the next five races, he has a lot of good races comming up.

on trackside at pocono, he said, "we'll be running the black car again" and "when was the last time a plain black car won a race?"
not looking so good. but he hopefully picks up a win and shows how stupid it was not to sponsor robby at his best track.

and when is robby going to get another driver or just merge with some team already!?!
im mad of this only being robbygordon.com, not teamrobbygordon.com

Why would the California Highway Patrol want to sponsor Travis Kvapil, who is originally from Wisconsin, and has an average finish of 21st at Sonoma and an average finish of 30th on a road course!?! I would bet that if they had sponsored the "hometown hero", Robby Gordon, that the recruitment push would have greater success...

CHP scheme for the #28 at Sonoma UPDATE images: hearing the #28 Yates Racing Ford of Travis Kvapil will run the CHP - California Highway Patrol colors at Infineon Raceway next weekemd. See images on my #28 Team Schemes page.(6-13-2008)
UPDATE: The Sprint Cup series will make its only Northern California stop for the 2008 season this upcoming June 22 for the Toyota/Save Mart 350, and the #28 Yates Racing Ford will feature quite an interesting paint job: It will be wearing the colors and design of a California Highway Patrol vehicle. The California Highway Patrol is excited for the car's debut, which should help with the agency's current "very energetic recruitment push," said Mark Garrett, public affairs recruitment sergeant for the CHP's Southern Division. "We know how effective and influential NASCAR is," he told Inside Line. The black-and-white CHP-design Fusion will be driven by 2003 Craftsman Truck Series champion Travis Kvapil. A set of gold-and-black Goodyear Eagle tires almost perfectly matches the CHP logo that decorates the hood. This will be the California Highway Patrol's first venture into Cup sponsorship. At this point, the plan is to back the Yates Racing Ford for only one race.(Edmunds.com), see images on my #28 Team Schemes page(6-17-2008) Comment here

Cause it was dirt cheap....you think RG would have done that for 150k? Chump change...That car has been scrambling for sponsorship all season so far...

Honestly, I would have been pissed if the CHP spent 1 million on RG's car, granted the paint scheme would have been cool. California has enough issues as it is with debt to be sponsoring any car at all.

As I sit here Thursday night wondering what tomorrow will bring for RGM, I begin to think the blank car this weekend might draw more attention than a sponsored one. Do you maybe think this was the goal? Request a dollar amount so high for this race that no one signs on, run at the front, and make every nascar fan in America wonder

A. When was the last time an unsponsored car led a race

B. How the hell is this guy unsponsored...

Just a thought. Im sure RGM would love to have sponsor money this weekend, but you have to admit there is a lot of talk around the Nascar media circles already about this unsponsored #7...

Carpentier was on the pole in Montreal in a Fitz car (his first Nascar race!). You really think he'll miss the show?

IMO I think the only way we will see a sponsor on RG's car is if a sponsor comes forward and covers all 5 races RGM has open. I think the races RG has open are tracks that RG is good at and gets allot of press at. I believe Indy is or was also on the list. RG will get more press for running unsponsored and finishing in the top 3 then if he had a sponsor. Its almost like reverse marketing. If Jim Beam, Camping World or Monster were on the car it would be just another road race where Robby is listed as a top favorite to win. Now with being unsponsored and being a favorite, the media is talking about this and the #7 Alan Klawicki / #7 Robby Gordon under dog comments are being talked about again. RGM will most likely get more press this weekend then Yates has all year with their unsponsored cars or with their one off sponsor deals.

It is official, Camping World, King Taco and DLP HDTV will be on the car.....Camping World colors, Camping World and DLP on the hood, Camping World on the sides, Jim Beam and Menards as associates and Taco King on the rear. Camping World called yesterday and said they were unaware that the 7 was unsponsored this weekend and absolutely wanted to be on the car.
