OK, we all (well most of us) were disappointed that not only did Robby perform badly, but as a slap in the face Kyle Busch lead the most laps and won the race last week at Sears Point (what is an Infinion anyway???)

But we must move on and now we come to New Hampshire, the 1-mile paperclip. RG has his only win there and he started 16th and finished 17th (on the lead lap) in the 1st race there last year. In the second race he started 40th and finished 31st the first car 3-laps down.

How do you think he'll do???

A top 20 would be great, but even the 31st wouldnt be terrible and would probably keep him safely in the top 35 for another race. I would like to see him have a clean race and finish in the teens and I think it is realistically possible!:D

GAS ON!!!

Well.. I dont have anything too positive to ad to the downward spiral.. but I did think it was cool of RG to pull out of line late in the race sunday and push Bobby Labonte to his pit stall.. Labonte had alternator troubles and the battery died/car stalled.

Good luck RGM. Gas on! fingers crossed for a top 20.

We didn't see that on TV... Cool to hear, maybe he could sell his team or part of it to Boston Venture group and become a 3rd car with the Petty's, he would still have the GEM/Dodge involvement and having BL as a team mate might have a good effect on RG!

Since all of us monday morning qb's have out own ideas as to what is lacking at RGM, I figured I would send the question to Robin Miller of Speed. Robin has a long history with RG and PT and stirring things up with Michael Andretti...I asked what he thought about Rob's current efforts, what was lacking and if he thought he would ever bail on Crapcar and go back to open wheel racing. Here is his response:

Joe:

I agree that Robby is blessed with lots of talent but one car teams have no chance nowadays, especially in nascar. he might be OK in off road but he neither has the budget or people to succeed. He'll never be back to open wheel except maybe for Indy and I admire his pluck. racing needs more of Gordon and less of the spoiled rich kids.

thanks, robin

Unfortunately, I think RG was born 20-30 years to late

Here is the RGM preview:

Apparently they are testing before they go so that bodes well for them but they will be running an unsponsored car once again, and I think it will be much harder to get a sponsor this time around, after the results last week...

Robby Gordon Loudon Preview

Robby Gordon Loudon Preview

CHARLOTTE, NC (June 25, 2008) – Robby Gordon heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend, a track that produced one of Gordon’s most memorable feats as a professional driver – his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory on November 23, 2001. Along with his win, Gordon has scored two top-five and three top-ten finishes at the 1.058-mile oval track.

Gordon, who is coming off a heart-breaking 36th-place finish at the road course race at Infineon Raceway, continues to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel. In preparation for this weekend’s race, the No. 7 team will make a pit stop at the Milwaukee Mile, a low-banking oval race track very similar to NHMS, in an effort to optimize their race package for the 301-lap, 318.6 mile race.

The No. 7 will be sporting the “back in black” paint scheme once again this weekend. Primary sponsorship opportunities are still available for this weekend’s race, and interested parties should contact the Business Development department at bizdev@teamgordon.com.

TV and Radio Times – Qualifying is set for Friday, June 27th at 3:10 p.m. (ET) on SPEED TV, MRN, and Sirius. The Lenox Industrial Tools 301 will begin on Sunday at 2:17 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast live on TNT, PRN and Sirius Satellite radio.

Thoughts on Loudon – “It’s always good to be racing at a track where you have had finished well in the past,” stated Gordon. “New Hampshire is a flat track that can be difficult to turn on, so it is important that we focus on the handling of the car. This weekend our emphasis will be to bring home a good finish, so that we can get back to where we belong in the points standings,” commented Gordon.

Appearance Schedule – Gordon will be signing autographs on Sunday at his souvenir trailer at 10:45 am.

NOTES

2008 Season

Gordon finished second in the 2008 Prelude to the Dream.
He recorded his second best finish of 2008 at Talladega. The No. 7 finished 11th.
He finished eighth at the Daytona 500.
Gordon has a marketing, manufacturing and technical services agreement with Gillett Evernham Motorsports.
Gordon switched to Dodge days before the Daytona 500.
Gordon is 32nd in driver points.

Career

Watkins Glen Aug. 10, 2003
Gordon’s NASCAR only pole came at Atlanta on March 7, 1997.
Gordon owns one Nationwide Series victory at Richmond on Sept. 10, 2004
In the CART Series, Gordon made 106 starts posting wins at Phoenix and Detroit in addition to four poles.
In his ten starts in the Indianapolis 500, Gordon owns five top-10 finishes.

Very very very (did I say very?) early in practice, but Robby ran a top 10 lap in his first lap at the track. He ran just that one lap and headed back to the garage. I cannot remember the last time one of his cars unloaded that decently. Dont get too excited, but its nice to see a car that was ready for the track before it hit the track.

Yea, just jumped back on here to comment. Hmmm, very interesting. More than anything, they need to get points this week to get solidly in the top 35. RGM has NOT had to prepare a plate car for go-or-go-home qualifying, and they would be behind the 8 ball doing so compared to the other teams that do it 4 times a year. He needs to be in the Daytona race.

it looks like there are only 44 cars this weekend so only 1 is going home, how bummed do you think JJ Yelly will be...

It was hilarious listening to the Wood Brothers crew members this week on Sirius. The crew chief was saying how last week proved the #21 team had good equipment and could run up front, and how Marcos Ambrose would be good at NHIS. When asked what he thought the car would do, the crew chief said qualify in the top 15-20 and run there all day.

Seriously, do these guys think their car was the reason Marcos ran up front? I mean PJ Jones ran in the top 5 all day a few years ago in a Morgan McClure car. Apparently they had good equipment too... ;)

Back to Rg, he dropped a few sports, went back out and ran two laps and moved back up to 5th. To me, him running two laps at a time means he is working on qualifying. So lets not get too excited about the speed yet, its probably a qualifying setup.

If he starts toward the front he at least has a chance of staying there not like when he starts in the botom 30s and is in danger of going a lap down after 25 laps... Being the fastest guy a lap down from the middle of the race on sucks and hopefully he can qual toward the front and keep it there for the day, we don't need a win just a good finish!!!!!!!!

His average is still pretty close to the other fast guys so he might still be good...

RGFan
June 27th, 2008, 11:20
The average is misleading, he has been making two lap runs, which usually means all qualifying, he only has 7 laps total...If he was up to 20 laps, I would be a little more optimistic about the average time

When the No. 7 Dodge Charger hit the track earlier this weekend, it was sporting the all too familiar “back in black” paint scheme. But when the Sunday’s Lenox Industrial Tools 301 starts, Robby Gordon’s No. 7 Dodge will feature the blue and gold Camping World paint scheme. For the second consecutive weekend, Camping World has offered their support to Gordon and his team. It will also mark their fifth race of the 2008 season as Gordon’s primary sponsor.

They retarded the timing to get better mileage......That was done on purpose, the motor did not fail, that is the give and take in doing something like that. People have scored top 5's on 7 cylinders here before........ a 30th place finish....alot more issues then a slightly detuned motor. The car handled like shiot for 3/4's of the race, and that had nothing to do with the motor.

I am not sure what went on today since I was on the boat, but I saw the last few laps. 26th place finish, not bad but definately a let down after the fast practice times. What happened?

I think the scariest thing is what almost occured. Robby was racing Kurt for his lap when he went too deep into the turn and almost took Kurt out. He even locked the brakes. Had he taken Busch out, Waltrip would have won! Glad that didnt happen!

A couple of things....First of all, the sun came out for the first time in 3 days. Second of all, the "team" made a timing adjustment to improve mileage slightly. As a result, the car handled like shiot for the first 3/4's of the race, then once they finally got it to hook up, the timing adjustment took a little off of the top end. Oh and wait for this.........RG was getting 9 laps less on fuel mileage then the Penske Dodges and the Toyotas.

How can this be? Robby finished 27th today and admitted he was out of the top 35 yet this chart shows him moving up one point to 33. How is that possible. I also don't understand how the top five in todays finishers were at the back of the pack almost all day long. I understand racing, but this I just don't get.

They tried pit strategy, staying out while the others pitted with rain right around the corner....Scot Riggs and Sam Hornish having bad luck at the end saved RG's arse.

I don't think the pit crew is capable of getting the fuel tank full, they are constantly going long on pit stops and they must not be getting it all the way full...

They all pitted at one point......Robby asked after the pit how short were they going to be on fuel from the finish and Walter said 11 laps. Immediatley after that, Kurt Busch's crewchide came on his radio and said to not get crazy that he was only two laps short and that they were going to go for it. Another yellow happened, RG had to pit, so he did, Kurt Bush and POS, (who was in the same boat at Busch) There was one more pit after that it was pointless.
