just found this ...
maybe NHRA should also look into Safer barriers too.. like nascar... when drag cars break axles the other axle tends to slam the car into the wall.. ive seen my dad do it a few times. Also the run off's.. need to be bigger.. maybe some type of blow up device... not dirt with hay bales....
another dream .. on aircraft carriers.. they have the wire system .. the plane lands.. the hook on the plane catches the wire and slows the plane down instantly... just idea for run away cars.
what do you guys think?

I have a feeling the concussion of the explosion knocked him out cold. The wall at the end of the track should of been at a 45 degree angle or less. Most of thhese tracks were built when cars were running around 230-250. There going 300+ now and the shut down areas are way to short. Alot of times you have to lock the rears up and skip the car sidways to make the turnout. i think the shutdowns should be at least 2000 feet. And the sand pit needs to be lower than the asphalt. Drag racing safety is way behind the times in all aspects.
There going way to fast for the amount of safety they have. I dont know if anyone noticed but we've seen alot more explosions since the reduced nitro rules came into effect a few years back. The cars are having to spin the blowers faster along with more compression. 100% nitro was alot easier on parts. We use to get say 16 runs out of a set of rods if nothing went haywire. We are lucky to get 8 runs now. All the rule did was create more expense along with a more volitale situation. I could go on all day.
Safer barriers and a longer shut down would be a nice step forward.

I know what it's like second hand from family members.
Heres a photo after a sand trap incident. Took forever to get all of the sand and mud out.

Not NEARLY as bad as offroad racing IMO. I too come from a drag racing background and was absolutely flabbergasted at the lack of safety gear requirements in offroad racing. "where this helmet and some sort of firesuit and your good" in any vehicle.

everyone should mandate thier own safety as well. I also think that all motorsports should have a dept. only researching and finding new safety measures for all competitors. CORR, IMO has started a good safety protocal for all racers (Head neck restraint, wrist restraints for kids etc.) but it shouldnt stop there. The only way for this to work is to have the competitors active in safety as well

I somewhat agree, but I feel the focus needs to be on the spectators and crews.
It is only a matter of time before a car or truck goes into a crowd, or there is a big fatal pit stop accident.

Chris i totally agree. Ofroad safety is a total joke. If anything they should be over doing it since most of the time there isnt a safety crew there. My guys think im nuts when it comes to safety. Hell when i fuel the truck in fully suited head to toe. You never know when something can catch on fire.
If its got fuel and a spark you can have a fire. Doesnt matter what it is. Generator or a 8000 horsepower Drag motor.
