on my land cruiser i'm adding another trans cooler in line with
the stock cooler. while i'm at it should i bypass the radiator
loop (for the sake of simplicity and eliminating another potential
failure point). if the truck will never see any cold weather is this
ok or am i missing something. thanks in advance....

No, don't.

I don't know if bypassing the stock in-radiator cooler is OK or not. However, I bypassed it on my 93 fullsize Bronco with the E4OD trans, but I only did that because I heard there's a possibility that the stock in-radiator cooler may eventually develop an interior leak as it ages. Don't know if that's true or not, but it was cheaper for me to bypass it with two new external coolers rather than a new radiator and one external cooler, so I went that way. On my 03 Tacoma, though, I did not bypass the radiator and just ran an external cooler in line with it.

Keep it in place and plumbed like this:

Transmission -> Radiator -> Aux Cooler -> Transmission

Reason being is, you don't want your transmission to get too cool, and you also don't want it to get too warm. Running it through the radiator will also help with warming up the transmission when its cold. 180degrees is about optimal for most applications. If you don't reach the 'sweet' spot in temperature, you can cause more problems.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the advice....

...rather than start a new thread maybe someone could help with this, the rule book says
"All hoses that run through the passenger compartment must be shielded as well." what is
considered adequate shielding.
