i really want to put some old school slot mag wheels on my 71 f250 long bed. since this truck wont have too fancy of suspension and the rims will need to be pretty strong, what do you guys think about running 8 lug slot's. probably depends on brand, but structurally?
heres a general pic of what im looking for.

i just dont want to get a set of 8 lugger slot's and then bend them all under the beastly old ford :D
plan on 33 or 35" tires if that helps in any way.

Hard to say but check them out good because of their age. I've hauled well over a ton many times.

The problem with those is most 8 lug slotted mags will be for 16.5" tires. This particular rim size lacks the safety beads that 15's, 16's and 17's have. They are much more prone to bead failure. If you can find a set in 15" go for it. Otherwise I would keep looking.

i dont plan on running beadlocks, i think they are more hassle since they like to leak.
the truck IS drum rear brakes and will stay that way for quite a long time. ill try to look for 15" rims but if a 8 lug slot comes up in 16.5 in. then i cant pass it up. these things are really hard to find!
thanks!

Thanks, I was unaware. I figured they were like GM 4WD and a little grinding solves all.
In that case, I would not run the slotted mags. I would not race on 16.5's.
Also who says all beadlocks leak? I have had 3 sets of trailready's and no leaks (14 wheels, 15's and 17's.)

ohhhhhh i was just thinking rear drums. it will have front disks.. so 15's wont work with the factory front dual-piston break setup?

No way I'd race on 16.5's. They come off too easy. I've changed a few 12x16.5 tires right on the truck without touching any lug nuts! :)

ok so i guess slot's are out :(
15's wont work with factory dual piston front disk brakes right? or will they?

I would really try to find some good used 17" rims and tires, or at the very least, 16's.

I thought your truck was only a half ton not 8 lug 3/4 or one ton?

For a strong decent looking 8 lug perhaps look for mid 90's to 97 Ford alloys. They put some good wheels on from the factory in that time. They can be found cheap with some looking, everybody wants the newest bling junk and pulls them off. The 99 up wheels are different pattern so stay away from them. They would be 16's with a bead rib
