I've never used the billet clamps, but every drive-shaft builder I've talked to has said they were just for show. The yoke they attach to is supposed to take the load, the clamp is just supposed to keep the joint in the yoke. I like OE style.

the reason i ask is i have a yoke that has tapped holes (1/4 -28) and i dislike the stamped steel straps w/ bolt's .I want to run u bolt style and saw the billet clamps for sale.I was just curious if anyone has run them.I will probably open up the yoke holes to accept the u bolts i have, they are made by Stange and are 5/16 -24...

the u-bolts fall out when they break--easy to replace. If a bolt breaks its usually impossible to get out on the trail. I remember that with the rear end of a jeep wrangler. Seems easy to drill them out for u-bolts. The aluminum straps look like they'd limit the max ujoint angle which may be a problem. I also hear you can overtighten u-bolts?
