ok, with the way things are, it prolly won't ever happen, but given equal cars, great navigators, and having error free stages, who would you pick between the two for the better overall dakar rally result and what place would they finish overall? and why?

There is no such thing as equal cars, perfect navigation or error free races. If you take those things out of the Dakar you have taken out the essence of the race. The thing that makes The Dakar, The Dakar is how the TEAM handles all of those factors. A driver that thrashes a race car causing the guys in the bivouac to work harder that night, sets himself up for errors a day or two down the trail. The navigation factor is also huge (that's why the bike guys are heroes to me) and everyone makes navigation errors at some point. The real race doesn't start until after everyone is tired and spent.

So given all of this, I would have to say that BJ would beat Rubs simply because Rubs can't (even with all of Andy's awesome help) keep an even pace or keep from losing his temper when he gets tired. He remains his own worst enemy.

The Hummbuggy team will continue to finish right after the VW's, Mitsu's, & BMW's that don't have major problems.

Actually robby didn't have that many problems last year. In portugal he just got stuck and sucked into a ditch and in Africa he just ran out of gas, not that bad in my book.

Yeah, BJ is a top notch guy and a talented driver. I'd still vote for Mark or Giniell then Peterhansel for the win.

They didn't have THAT many problems (thank god they got fuel from the bikes that one time) but the Hummer didn't have anything for the Mitsu's or the VW's that year either.

South America will be interesting with guys like Peterhansel not having any experience/navigation advantage like he has in Africa.
