I've been looking at the engines tuned to class 9 specs and I can't figure out why they cost so much. The rules don't allow for a whole lot of machine work or performance parts but the long blocks are going for around $4k.
you can get a really built 1915cc full race engine for $3k and thats turnkey.
(by the way, I blew up my engine on the pre-run in Snowflake this past weekend, so I'm in the market for a new one)

I know Mohr Performance builds very fast motors and they are way less than that. Call Joel Mohr at 760-947-6647.

The cost of parts has nearly tripled in the last couple years.A case is anywhere from 400-600 minus machining, heads are about 300-350 for a set BARE,even cams have gone up alot. Most shops are charging 400-550 labor. Shoot me a pm if you are looking for a builder.

You can't even buy the parts for a "really built 1915cc full race engine" for $3K. I heard that builder in Vegas is very cost effective and will accept competitors coupons...

Jeff you are such a 吻屁股 or in your native language pocałunek tyłek .I'm sure the type of 1915 ryan is talking about a standard street motor, used case, standard crank,no machine work, standard rods, non forged pistons and stock heads etc etc etc .Not quite the COMPETITIVE engine you have......

I again apologize for my arrogance and attitude. I saw the "really built full race engine" thing and immediatley thought it meant the kind of quality you'd own Chris 师傅你能够吃的全部自助餐 as that's where I set my bar. Doug's right that kinda $'s for a VW, outlandish??????

Did one about two years ago, 2.5k with a second hand case.
Working on another, new case, same cam, p/c's, new heads, short
of the super sexy valve train and we will be around 4k.
Any more than that and I'd just as well spend more on the tranny and shox.
Best of luck and get that car out there, they are more fun making dust than in the garage...

I called Mohr performance and a couple other numbers I got from the guys at Whiplash and it seems the places I found on the internet are just ripping people off.
The guys who build the "real" class 9 engines are charging around $2800 for a long block and $4500 for a complete turnkey.
Thanks for the info and contacts!
