I have a 4.0 in a ranger and would like to see if anyone has any advice as to which tranny would be the better choice and why? also it has a 10" rear and 37's. Any specific shops would help too. thanks

C4 - because Culhane has the parts and will build you a reliable tranny for a reasonable price.

I would do a C-4 and FOR SURE have Culhane Transmissions in Lake Elsinore do it. He did a C-4 for the Unleashed truck that took all kinds of abuse in the sand and desert. The Trans NEVER failed. The guy is top notch.

c4 by far. the 700r4 has known weaknesses you must build it up for which c4's do not have.

You can't really compare the two directly - C4 is a 3 speed and the 700R4 is an Overdrive. The 700R4 has a lower 1st gear and is over-driven which will let you run a lower R&P and still have good Highway fuel economy. A well built 700R4 is every bit as strong as a built C4 and the 700R4 will be cheaper to get and own. Check out Bowtie Transmission at 700R4.com in Hesperia, they are the experts. You won't go wrong with a Culhane C4 either.
