Does anybody carry 16 x 8 wheels with a shallow (less than 4") backspacing for a 6 on 5.5 Toyota/Chevy bolt pattern? It's common on 15" wheels, but not 16's. I'm having a problem with the rear tires articulating up and contacting the shocks. It's an '01 Tacoma using a ford 9" with 5/8" studs/Wilwood brakes out back, (so a 15" wheel would clear), but I can't use 15" wheels because of the bigger Tundra calipers in front.

Thanks

It kind of looks like you might have to go with a blank 16-17" buggy wheel and have the studs drilled to fit your wheel pattern if possible. I think the problem is that most truck wheels are made for a center offset and the buggy wheels are made for a relatively low offset. Looks like a custom app, might look at talking to American racing, KMC, BTR to see if they have any options or maybe running a wheel spacer will keep the tire away from the shocks.

We're going to try the longest 5/8 studs available, (3"), then machine 1" aluminum spacers and weld them on to the wheel rather than leaving them loose. That way the "wheel" is just an inch thicker. A better picture:

How about running a 1.25" billet wheel adapter? I wouldn't start welding to the aluminum wheels at the hub if I didn't have to. With the adapter installed any wheel (including spares) will fit without issue.

Aloha

I woudln't start welding to the wheel either. If you are going to, you need to have them re-heat treated as the AL will be butter after welded.
