My 94 Ranger with 4.0 and auto trans is making a bad humming noise..example (It sounds like a tire rubbing on a fender or something). I just replaced the Carrier bearing about 2 months ago so im pretty sure it's not that plus it sounds more like the tranny. Im having a hard time finding the problem because it's hard to trace the sound anyone got any ideas??? Kinda makes a ringing noise to like something is loose.. I would love to just replace the tranny but don't wanna spend a bunch of $$$$ Anyone know who has a auto trans for this truck?

Check your tranny mounts, then check your motor mounts, before you blame tranny's internals.

Get it up on a rack or some jackstands where you can SAFELY get under the truck with it running (in gear).

http://www.highangledriveline.com/images/f-350/Copy_of_chrome1350doubl.jpgThis is happening because your angles are not cancling on your system most likely -its called gear Rattle and Actually is made worse if your running the polly style carrier - It happens mainly on what I call a float -and can be fixed with a c/v joint after the carrier and proper angles at the axle- here's the only pic I could find ( its chrome get over it) Jess
