Anybody used one of these??

Was thinking about building a mid-engine buggy with an auto trans to one of these.
Would be cheaper then a Mendi. and uses proven parts.

What do you think?

Nice but wide. You can do up a quickchange rear to be about 8" narrower. If you can live with shorter axles, it's a very cost effective way to go.

Do you have the link for the Quickchange centers?

B&J (http://www.bandjtransmission.com/) makes them, but they are not listed on the web site.

Jeff Fields (http://www.transaxleengineering.com/home.html) also makes them, also not on the site.......

I don't know, Jeff was at the off-road expo 2 weeks ago. I talked to him about it there but can't remember the price.

B&J, Roosterbooster on here would have some info on that one. Unfortunantly, the pictures are gone, but the thread is here. (http://www.race-dezert.com/forum/showthread.php?p=435435#post435435)

I tried a search but did not come up with anything. Do you know of any other threads with this type of set up?
Maybe on another site?
Thanks

the dutchman housing with axles is 16 inches wide total. transaxle engineering also has a quick change unit thats pretty nice, but its about 5k. still not a bad deal comapred to the cost of a mendi that will break, and cheaper than the big fortins and albins boxes still. i am building my own 9in center housing for my buggy im building. the one problem with the 9 inch is the pinion gear is so low on the ring gear, so the output flanges sit really high in the chassis and are limiting the sus[ension travel some.

Check out the true hi 9 dropout, there's your high pinion and then you could drop the diff way down if you need to. I guess you can't go too far or you kind of negate the purpose of IRS but you get the picture.

That Hi 9 is pretty cool. Could be better to get the center lower in the chassis.
