hello all.

im new to this forum, looking for a way to put a long travel kit on my 98 gmc. ive looked around, seems like everywhere and found only 2 kits. CST and Fabtech.
im doing this kit for a senior project so i will put everything on myself with help from my dad (welding, etc.).

the fabtech kit is cheaper for about $1300 from 4 wheel parts. and the CST is about $4000 from socalsupertrucks, but comes with fiberglass fenders.

which kit would be the better kit for more travel, better performance, and anything else.

Is there other kits out there that will give me more travel but for around the same price?

thanks all

I put the Fabtech LT kit on my 96 Silverado and had a lot of problems. I went through ball joints, wheel bearings, alignments, tie rods, idler/pitman arms, tires. The cost of the kit is cheap compared to all the time and money you will have to spend to keep it driveable. I never went hard off-road, mainly used on fireroads to chase, and drove it on a daily basis. Ended up selling it for a Tacoma, best decision I made.

I have heard that the CST is better but don't think you will ever get away from the basic problems associated with the chevy LT kits for that year. My advice would be to re-think your idea, otherwise you will have quite a few headaches in the future. Let me know if you have any more questions don't want anybody else to make the same mistake...

thanks for the info!

would just the spindle kit from fabtech be better? or will there still be all those issues?

The spindal is perfectly ok because it retains the stock geometery of the suspension, the major problems were with the 6 inch kit that came with a spindal, taller coil and new upper arms. These kits are junk and go through ball joints like crasy. If the CST Kit comes with fenders go for it.
