So from looking around in shops and looking at pictures of them, I notice one thing, all the people who build the really trick stuff have the nice tables. Here is the coolest one I can find for the price the bigest one they have runs about 3,500 with out clamps. I found this one in Vegas at the fabtech and AWS welding show. What do you think of this brand?

We built this table with intentions of using it to build our 9" housings, but have since come out with fixtures for TONS of other stuff as well.

We can make them in any size up to 4'x8' if anyone is interested, for under 1K in DIY format.

Ballistic,

What does the welding option for a 4x8 DIY 1k table run?

Nice looking table, strong light, like an A-Arm.

More pictures?

Thanks

John

Are you looking for a welded version? We had plans of sending them bolted together in a few key spots, and then letting the fabricator weld the jigs and grinding them smooth, thus lowering the cost significantly. An entire DIY table would run in the high $900's, you can add bolt on legs or make them yourself, and we can offer a good amount of jig-together fixtures that we've come up with that would be pretty universal IMO.

Give me a few days to dig up some pics, get some finalized pricing and round up some examples of what types of things can be done on them.

That's a nice idea. How thick are the plates? It appears you are laser cutting the holes. Can you CNC tap the holes to whatever size and pattern?
I imagine the welding could make the top a little wavy. Blanchard grinding after welding would be ideal.

Yes it's possible to tap the holes, but it would be best just to use nuts because it is only .250" steel. Blanchard grind would be ideal, but for 99.99% of jobs, this table will do the trick as is (after a good grinding with a flap disk on the welds...). The hardest part was clamping it together without causing waves, but we have that figured out too, and the solution will be included in the DIY kit if we decide to produce these.

Was the solution stacking bricks between the welds? :) I will have to get a quote from you later on for some sheet metal parts.

No, we cut 4" wide strips of .250" down the length of the table with bolt holes in them to act as large washers to clamp the pieces together. You put a couple on each side where you are welding and run a few 7" bolts through the table, then weld away.
