Hi guys. I'm going to be swapping in a 9" in place of the 8.8 on my 95 Bronco. Other than the LeDuc vss relocating kit, is there any other way to hook up the vss?

Brea auto electric also makes a relocating kit.

This may be a lot of work but you cut the ring tone off the 8.8 and weld on the back of 9” ring gear and drill and mount the censer in line on the back on the housing.

I just finished making my own off my drive line, its not too complicated and you dont have to be as accurate at aiming the sensor and tooth shape as you'd think. All the vss system is just and electro magnetic frequency system, get the sensor to pick up some sort of frequency that is directly related to the speed of the vehicle and your set.
This thread shows exactly what geoff was talking about and i think its the way to go if your putting the vss in/on the axle somewhere. The stock tone ring on an 8.8 is a press fit onto the stock carrier, pretty sure you can just pry it off, no cutting. Only thing you'd need to do is get it to fit on the 9" carrier, it might be the same dia. odds are its not and you'll need to bore/lathe the ID to fit the 9" carrier.

the brea auto electric piece is nice, but having a $300 pinion ornament on display for some rock or other fixed item to reduce its mass is not my flavor. Tuck it up or put it in something (back of trans, in 3rd member).

forgot to post...
that setup in the link is sort of sketch, welding to the 3rd member like that isnt too practical especially when you have perfectly good steel 180* around from that. put the sensor in the housing not on the 3rd.

The Brea ones I have seen have been mounted on the tranny output shaft?

Yes, for a street rod i see no problem, but i see rocks wreaking havock with that set up.

Hey Nick, I'm running the Brea Auto Electric yoke on my Bronco. I mounted the sensor on top of the transfer case to get it up high and out of the way. So far so good. It's the easiest way I found. Good luck Amigo.

How? On a Bronco, it's so close to the transfer case that you would have a very hard time hiting it with anything.

I agree with this comment Nick. I think the possibility of a rock taking out the sensor in that position is less than having it on housing and we don't have any issues there. You can fab up a sheetmetal shroud around it if necessary.

95's have tone rings on the front rotors. just ditch the ABS and relocate off the front.

I believe they have an ABS sensor off the front rotors like most late model fords. I would guess that that small ring will not work for the transmission shift points due to its size, not to mention the fact that the front wheel will be turning at different speeds when turning. I believe that is why tone rings are run off of gears or drive lines to begin with.

the one on the front is around the same size as that leduc and trueline one. i'm pretty sure it would work.

This may be a lot of work but you cut the ring tone off the 8.8 and weld on the back of 9” ring gear and drill and mount the censer in line on the back on the housing.
The tone ring on the 8.8 is just pressed on. Pull the ring gear off the carrier and a light tap with a hammer and the tone ring will pop right off.
Then you can either machine the ring and the 9" diff, or do a little machining on the 8.8 tone ring to sit against the 9" differential (ring gear carrier) and tack the tone ring into place. It's actually pretty easy.
Then you need to drill a hole and weld in a little bung for the VSS sensor.
This pic show is a great example of how it looks when done.
