Anyone ever heard of converting a 2wd truck into a 4wd truck? I doubt it's cost effective but is it even worth it?

I have done 2 4wd ford vans and if its done right they work great but the cost will drive you nuts [unless you can find a totaled doner truck ] the branded title trucks are the best

What parts would I need? And lets say I got all the parts, how much would the labor be?

What kind of truck? In almost every single case it's cheaper to sell the 2wd and purchase a 4wd. Can it be done? Heck yeah it can. Anything can be done with enough time and resources. ;)

the way truck prices are today you would be WAY AHEAD to buy a 4x4.
I just bought the wife a 2007 hummer H2 loaded to the teeth nav,dvd etc for 21400.00
The factory window sticker said 43568.00 and it only had 6000 miles.

I've done two full size Chevy's with big blocks. If you like to work, it's not that bad.

What year Silverado? IFS 4x4 conversion or solid axle? What's the intended use of the truck? Go fast or crawl?

2003 Silverado. Probably IFS 4x4 conversion and. I'm in love with the truck but want more security for sticky situations. I'm getting the impression that the time, effort and money probably won't be worth it. It's my daily driver.

No way in heck would the conversion be worth it. Sell 2wd truck, purchase 4x4 truck, conversion complete.

funny you mention i was playing with the idea of pulling the 4x4 out of my f150 and long-travel due to hating the stupid shift on the fly not working well when stopped (the get stuck then use 4x4 situation)
