Can you run a 2 seater 9 car with dual port heads?

To keep it objective you will do "around" the same speed in a 9 and 5/1600. The 9 cars are much cheaper to own/ operate.
As far as how long I have been racing ....... I am an armchair quarterback and just talk to much but what can I do. I have a 9 car that should be completed soon and I have been pitting for about a year and a half. I was lucky enough to get hooked up with a great bunch of guys (don't let it go to your head) and have learned a whole lot along the way.

Nope, I'm calling Bull$h!t on the price thing. The people I use to race against in class 9 do not have 18 to 25 k sitting around to purchase a highly used 9 car. On the other hand there are many 5/1600 out there that are reasonably priced. It is a sad time in racing for class nine.

When I sell my 9 I will be looking for around 7K turn key if that makes anyone feel any better.

No what is out there for the price you claim is old junk that needs a lot of updates. I can pick up a car for that right now, but by the time I get it where it needs to be I am better off buying Hughs two seat. In my opinion that is a car that is actually worth the asking price. If I had the cash I would buy it today.

At this level drivers and prep win races not cars.

Yep I said that in a different post. But at my level I would need to have dual port, 2.5 shocks, the right tire combo and so on. Why spend 7 or 8 grand on something when you have to dump another 5 grand into it. For that price you could almost build a new car. If i wanted to race against myself I would race sportsman.
Lets look at it this way: Put Torres in one of these great 7-9 k piles of out dated junk. Let him prep it but run what the car came with.
Now put FFFrancis in an updated car.
Franks gonna win everytime. I choose the two names cause they are the most equal I can think of.
All I was saying is Hughes car is the only reasonibly priced car that I have seen in a long time. I will be one less guy that will give my money away for one of these piles.
And yes you do need a competitive car to race.

I bought my 9 with 2.5s, nice radio, intercom, a Folts trans and all the other goodies for 7K and I will be selling it that way. The prices of 9 cars recently is ridiculous, that’s all I am saying.

I really hate to throw flames on the fire, but add in motor rebuilds and race fuel, and it's pretty tough to deny that class 9 is cheaper...

Compared to:

http://www.race-dezert.com/cgi-bin/trader/atl.cgi?ct=5&md=second&id=3812 <---No motor and trans!
Sure there are some cheap 5/16s, but they won't be updated with bypass, micro stubs, etc.
I don't want to fight, I'm just defending the economics...

What makes me laugh at the prices people think a 9 car should be need a reality check, a class 9 car is basically a 1968 VW bug with close 3-4 gears with stock motors with a cam with a tube frame. No Combo spindles that can last decades, or arms that will do the same, all stock stuff in front except the rack and pinion, no fancy shocks, no power st no disk brakes, but they do run complete VW stuff that can be bought for next to nothing. Looking at some of the ridicules prices I have seen, pretty damn expensive tubing, considering it is a 68 bug with a tube frame, or at best a low buck dune buggy.

Your 100% correct Dave but you have to remember that about 80% or more of the guys getting into 9 have no idea where to start on building their own car. That is one the reasons I see the prices are higher then they should be. Yeah you can say it's a 68 bug with a tube chassis but tell that to the guy who doesnt have a welder, grinders, BIG HAMMER stc... and say its easy just put a chassis around it. Most people forget about the years of doing it wrong to figure out the tricks. Just imagine how many hours go into building a turnkey car for a pro and them imagine how many hours it will take that guy that doesnt understand what swing axle is.
Dont get me wrong I would never think of buying a 9 car for 25k but a car like Mr. Hughes for 13k is worth it. I sold my old single seat for 13k with a spare trans and it had maybe 6 races on it and I think that was a fair price for both of us. Most of the time your paying more for the car that has the "setup" then the actual parts on it. I know when I sold my car he wanted it right after the race and had a guy watch us so we wouldnt change anything and that is a smart thing to do. No matter what you think your buying there are those guys that will take a couple turns out of the bars or change some shims just so that they keep their secrets.

I know set up and things are important, but when I see 25.000 dolors asking price for a 9 car things have gotten way out of hand. I fault nobody for trying to get as much as possible for their car, but their is no set up or anything else on a class 9 car that remotley demands a amount like that. Forsure setting up a 9 car is not rocket science, or worth 18.000 dollors more than most 9 cars..Maybe his wife is hammering him to sell it and he put some price like that so he doesnt have to sell it but his wife thinks he is trying to sell it. My freind did that and got to keep his car because IT WOULD NOT SELL LOL

I started racing a 1968 class 9 Bug in 2003, and its still my pre runner. But, you cannot be competitive in a 1968 bug anymore.

I have driven and worked on both Class-9 and Class 5-1600 cars. The easiest one to work on (repair, tune, modify, etc.) is the Class-9 because of accessibility. If you enjoy changing a pedal assembly with your feet up over the seat and your head in the foot well go to 5-1600 - on the 9-car you simply remove the hood.
