i have a friend that needs some help

i know most of the people that look around this forum would have some great advice for my friends problem, this is non off-road related but he needs help

He drives a 2004 auto Acura MDX, he doesnt know anything about cars so he had me drive it and see what i think. I noticed that when it shifts, it seems like the clutch sticks. It revs up and doesnt seem to release the clutch for several seconds, so i checked the tranny fluid and it was bone dry. I figured dumping some in would do the trick but it didnt, it seems even worse now. If you can help out my friend it would be much appricated. Thanks alot

why was it bone dry? how long was it driven like that?

i dont know, its not my car. It has about 98k miles on it and i dont think the tranny had ever been serviced. As for how long it was dry, again i dont know but i was thinking maybe something had burned up or something due to driving dry, but im not sure.
