I have read the bad news about shops closing in our industry and we have all seen the enormous boost In toys for sale in the classifieds. I had a thought.. I as a small business owner do my very best to put my money into the tills of other small companies. Even if it costs me a little more, I'd rather go to my local "Ma and Pa" hardware store up the street then to a "Super Store".
Religious groups, Politically like minded groups and just about every other "community" tries to keep the cash exchanged inside itself for goods and services.
Here on RDC we have an enormous range of goods and services available to us. From Vacation destinations to Printers, Construction contractors, on and on..
The Business directory here has served me countless times for my racing needs and I am wondering if we can create a second non-race directory providing the information needed to create a sub-economy of Off Road enthusiasts. When we "Familia" are in need of a services that might be found on Google or a local directory, we would have the option of choosing from those people here on RDC. I would be happy to provide an RDC discount as I am sure others would as well. With a member base 10,000+ strong and countless non-members viewing RDC daily, we could really see an enormous potential for business growth in ower community.
Just one more way to help each other out and hopefully slim the heart breaking news of shops closing, Teams leaving the sport and our "members" searching for work.
Your Thoughts?

I have a ton of snowboards and snow gear that are overstocked and putting me out of business. I would love to sell them. I would be "in" for sure.

I like the idea and will think about a slick implementation. When it comes to listings of any kind I feel that a forum is never the right place. Maybe our existing Business Directory? A new category within? The danger with that is that it will be opened up to anyone and we deny as it is plenty of listings that are very unrelated to off-road.

I just thinking out loud...
I can see the risk of just opening up a non-industry related section of the business directory. A "Non-Industry News" or "Familia Business" forum would be nice because it would be available for active RDC members. Limit the post to a specific sale, product, or discount that is available to RDC Members.

RDC "non-off road garge sale." (like our own little craigs list but since most of us know each other a bit you would be able to trust your seller/buyer)

We could also just have links set up in subcategories just like the existing directory. Make the directory listing available only to RDC members and their bizz or a listing for the place that they work. The Directory can be open to the public but Members will be the providers of the links. This will make an efficient directory for non-off road goods and services, keep the maintenance to a minimum for the staff and we all have a better connection to keep the $$$ in the community.

Perfect idea!! Opening up the directory to being posted in by the general public could just end up filling it with spam... you could even have some type of limitation as far as active RDC members that post in there as well... such as must have been a user for so many months before being allowed to post, must have properly filled out their profile information, must contribute to thread content... etc just some ideas so people aren't signing up with RDC just to spam it :)

I'm sure you'll come up with something cool.
This is a really good idea!
