View Full Version : Custom shift linkage for stock 091?

Just picked up an 091 bus box relatively cheap and want to keep it that way. Meaning I don't want to invest in a midcase for it or nosecone swaps, etc. I like the idea of simply being able to locate another one and slap it in if/when this one fails.

The one I picked up has the shift lever towards the nose of the trans, so I COULD convert it if I wanted to, but there's better things to spend my limited funds on. I know the stock shifting linkage on the trans can be made to work, just hoping you guys have some pics or have seen some? I don't have the trans yet, hoping to pic it up tomorrow, throw it in the chassis and go from there.

But I'm thinking something along the lines of a sideshaft to keep everything in line between the stock shift rod and the new one from the sideshaft to the trans. It doesn't help that this is the first EVER manual trans I've ever owned, I've ALWAYS dealt with only automatic transmissions! If I knew one would last I'd go with a bus auto as well!
But does it sound like I'm on the right track, or am I thinking there's more room to work with than there really is?

Nevermind! I SCORED on this one! It's a Nose shift and it even came with a new Bosch starter...for $400!
